Wealth And Money And What The Scriptures Say About It

Posted: Aug 10, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

Many people think the Holy Scriptures does not have much to say about riches and money. Money is a modern invention, a sign of the contemporary times. They did not have Philippine Pesos or Korean Won in the Holy Scriptures. In the Holy Scriptures, people paid with cows and sacks of rice. You think, the Holy Scriptures can't possibly teach me anything about riches and money management.

Thing is, that is where you are making a mistake. Fact is, the Holy Scriptures has many things to say about money, wealth and the riches. Some individuals believe that money is the root of all evil. You would be surprised to know that the addiction Bible verses states otherwise. At least, it is not money that is the cause of evil, but instead the desire to have more wealth and money than you need.

Here is an example of the addiction Bible verses about the love of money:

"He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; He who loves wine and oil will not be rich." PROVERBS 21:17

The Holy Scriptures make it clear. It is alright to want pleasure from time to time. It is okay to seek oil and wine every now and then. But then to fall in love with all of these excessively, if they are all you ever can think about, and it is beginning to affect your daily performance, then that is something else. The Holy Scriptures is not lenient in that attitude towards wealth and money.

Can you see what is wrong here? Folks who have lots of money make it their top priority to earn even more in order to support their lifestyles. Their number one duty is to get richer. They lose in their heads the one sole reason why they can even afford to live a comfortable lifestyle in the beginning – the Creator. Putting anything else before the Crrator is a serious sin against the commandment:

"You shall have no other gods before me." EXODUS 20:3 NIV

We should never put our love for material things before our love for the Creator, especially the love of wealth. You will not be able to take it with you in the afterlife, regardless of how much of it you have. The Holy Scriptures says,

"Honor the LORD with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase." PROVERBS 3:9

Put the Creator first, and a sufficient life will come knocking on your door as a reward from Him.

The followers of Christ should be reading the Holy Scriptures. It is not a concrete rule, mind you, nor do you have to read the Holy Scriptures in its entirety. But it must go without saying that as a follower of Christ, as a believer of the Savior and his sacrifices for us, Christians should at the very least care enough to read from time to time the Bible verses especially on their free time.

The Holy Scriptures, which is the Bible, is in itself the word of the Creator. In the Christian world, the Holy Scriptures is perhaps looked at as the most important piece of literary work in the whole world, simply because it embodies and contains the wisdom and teachings of the Father, our Creator.

Learning the Scriptures by heart is very difficult especially for kids, but it can be equally difficult on adults too. The human brain is not used to remembering large quantities of text at once unless, which is rare, it is conditioned to do so, like the few successful followers of Christ out there.
