Dealing With The Quick-Lube Problem

If there is one place that most car owners regret going to, it’s the quick-lube shops. This is because a lot of the people working in these lube shops tend to be rip-offs. There are even times when some of these shops do not have a real mechanic on hand. Fortunately, being aware of what these quick lube shops usually do can help you keep yourself from being ripped off.

Oftentimes, these quick-lube shops would offer you a number of stuff over and above basic oil change. This additional stuff could be a new battery or a replacement of any part. If you encounter quick-lube shops that do this, better turn around and look for another shop.

When visiting your local lube shop, you have to make sure that they are using the right oil for your car. Most often than not, mechanics in quick-lube shops would pump in basic grade oil even if what you have purchased is a fully synthetic one. So what happens after the old switcheroo? They sell the fully synthetic oil that you paid for at a higher price to people who do not have the time to visit lube shops. Oftentimes also they would charge you for a filter change without really changing your filter.

Some quick-lube shops are also known for including additional services in your invoice that you haven’t really asked for. This could include vacuuming your carpet to washing your windows. Keep in mind that you can often get these services for free if you visit any of those automotive service Atlanta centers.

However, before you go and head to any Atlanta auto service center, bear in mind that, just like in quick-lube shops, a number of service centers also do upselling of their products and services. Although these “upsellers” may sound to be only making sure that your car is in good condition, in truth, most of the services or products that they are offering are things that your car has no need for.

Aside from heading instead to automotive services Atlanta centers for your oil-and-filter change, you can actually do this by yourself. You just have to make sure that you have prepared all the needed items such as ratchet, oil filter wrench, oil catch container, funnel, some rags, new oil filter, and new oil.
