How To Build A Rat Rod

Posted: Sep 09, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

There are a couple of ways to build a rat rod and how you go about the build itself will depend on a few factors. The first and most important one is your build budget itself. Without a budget you will never know what you can afford as well as if the build will ever be completed. Once you have figured out an estimated budget for your rat rod you can move onto locating the right year, make and model that you want to build up.

The reason I say locate a budget before you pick your model is a simple one. We all want to build a rare or high end model/year however we all don't have budgets to allow us to do that. If you have a budget in mind first then you will focus on makes and models that will fit into that estimated budget.

After you have figured out the budget, make/model you can move onto locating the parts you will need. Many will start with a rolling chassis whereas others will start from the frame and work their way up. If you have never built a vehicle before don't worry. There are so many online resources that can help you along your way including rat rod forums where you will find thousands of rat rod fanatics ready and willing to help you every step of the way.

As you get your build underway, don't forget to take pictures and videos and submit them to our site for inclusion which is listed in the author box below. You should also submit them to forums, blogs, youtube and so on. Nothing will make you smile more than seeing your rat showcased online in thousands of places.

Once you get one build done you might want to start on another one. Be careful because building these fun rides can get addicting but I suppose there are worse things we could be doing with our time and money.
