For a short span of time, akademiks quickly got the different tastes of styles that the urban community are looking for. But how come akademiks became very popular in such a short span of time?
First of all, akademiks is an american brand of urban clothing lines popular with the loyal devotees of the hip-hop fashion and music. This brand was especially founded and designed by some of the top dogs of the fashion industry, namely the brothers Donwan Harrell and Emmett Harrell along with other group of people.
15 years before the akademiks, the brothers worked for fashion icons like Donna Karan, Ecko, Phat Farm, and Donwan being one of the top 10 designers of Nike, and made a lot of money along the way. After some time, they met up with the owner of Dr. Jays, Elliot Betesh, and made a proposal to them about making the next big thing in the world of fashion. The brothers decided to team up with him and created Akademiks.
Firstly, they thought about how people would know about their brand. Different marketing strategies has been formed to get the brand known all over the country, and one of their strategies was the slogan "Read Books, Get Brain". The slogan did get its neccessary attention, but also from the New York authorities that quickly took down ts contenthe Ad for malicious content. Akademiks released another small group of ads for the MTA in early September, 2006. The ads are clean and without controversy.
The brand was mainly popularized in 2001 when the famous Brooklyn rapper Fabolous advertised the brand on one of his singles. He also wore an akademiks velour on the inside cover of his debut album Ghetto Fabolous. Akademiks has alo gained popularity in the clothing industry due to the number of celebrities who wear the brand's PRPS jeans, such as rappers Dizzee Rascal and 50 Cent.
The name Akademiks is spelled akdmks, or occasionally AKS, on many of the company's garments. Some apparel also bears the Akademiks "A.S.A.P." insignia, standing for "Akdmks Small Arms Patrol".
