One simplest way of taking care of leather accessories is to wipe dust over them from time to time. Though it sounds very simple but is very dicey for leather as it cuts its finishes with every movement you make. For wiping simply use a piece of cloth. You do not need to do anything special for it.

Products come in market for cleaning leather accessories. Use them but before applying test the product in a hidden place that will not affect the overall look.

If your leather accessory gets stained there are many ways to remove it depending on the type of spot. For example, pencil erasers work well on white spots on leather. If stained with ink or pen use hairspray to remove it. Spray it on a piece of cloth or sponge not directly on leather and rub gently. Use rubber cement to remove grease and oil stains. Apply it over the spot, let it dry and then rub off. If alcohol spills make a solution of 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of water and apply it over the spot. Stain will go.

A mild saddle soap is a fabulous option for overall cleaning of leather accessories. It completely cleans.

There are other products also for cleaning i.e. petroleum jelly and waterless hand cleaners. They work as conditioners also, thus an added advantage. Apply them over spot and rub in a circular motion and then efface with a clean cloth. That’s all.

If color of your leather accessory starts fading use a shoe polish for restoring its color. Polish color should be similar or very close to that of leather. Follow the instruction on the bottle and apply the same.

If it gets wet soak water with sponge, newspaper or with cloth. Later let the leather dry naturally.

If your accessory is of suede leather then these tips will not help you. Special suede cleaning kit comes in market for cleaning it. Use it and follow the instructions label that comes along with the kit.
