Clothing, the Gift That Keeps on Giving

‘Tis the season to shop, shop, shop ‘til you drop!  But what to buy?  How many scented candles, fancy journals, decorative watches and tea cups can we give our moms, sisters and girlfriends?  This year when you think about grab bag gifts and Secret Santa’s, why not fill those stockings with a great paisley wrap or a bright red silk scarf.  Although they aren’t items that get worn every day, surely they are things that will bring you to mind over and over.

The true meaning for the word “souvenir” is actually to remember, and that is something we should all strive for when we do our holiday gift shopping.  Ask yourself, “Is this a present that will make him or her think of me ten years from now?”  Because if it isn’t, it may be worth revisiting your effort.  Exchange fuzzy slipper socks for a bright green beret (great for the holidays AND St. Patrick’s Day, of course).  Rethink a blue bathrobe and choose a stunning piece of lingerie instead.  Or take a real risk and pick out a white denim jacket – an accent piece that nobody’s wardrobe is really complete without.

The holidays are an opportunity to make a statement full of a fun splash of thoughtfulness.  So take a risk and buy that bright red purse for your 75-year old Aunt Sally, or pick out a sunshine yellow sweater for your niece who lives in Goth black lace.  The bottom line is that gift giving should be daring!

Remember, clothing is terrific way to express that gutsy side of yourself (or your best friend) that may have long ago been put on a shelf.  It is a chance to compliment someone’s style (or create a little for them!).  It is a chance to wrap up a little love inside a big red box and tie it shut with whimsy.  So throw away last year’s list and pick out a few off-beat choices and fun-filled finds.

If nothing else, yours will be the gift they think of for years to come!

Prioritizing the Beautiful YOU – Movement and More

By: Stacy Montgomery | 23/03/2009 | Fashion
Yes, all week long we drive our kids from soccer to band to friends, etc., etc., etc., while we literally sit behind the wheel of the car, growing our bodies bigger and bigger and becoming more and more frustrated with how we look – and more importantly, how we feel. And then we wonder, “Why don’t I have any energy?”

By now every single one of us has felt the crunch and has had to make adjustments in our budget and our day-to-day spending, and that is as it should be at a time like this. But just as importantly, we MUST keep up our spirits and rejuvenate ourselves along the way in order to avoid the endless worry and drama that could easily take up residence in our homes.

Rip Diets - Long Live Healthy Living

By: Stacy Montgomery | 04/03/2009 | Women's Health
For many of us, losing weight has been the distracting focus of much of our lives. It has been our limiting, lying nemesis. Our mind says, IF ONLY I were thin . . . IF ONLY I could lose weight. Ironically, the problem with this thought, from the very first moment, is that weight simply does not get lost.

Plus Size Lingerie

There is a sentence I repeat probably a hundred times a day. I say it to myself, I offer it to my coworkers, and I remind others of its veracity constantly. That sentence is, “Beautiful women come in all shapes and sizes.” For those of you who read this blog regularly, you’ll know that owning that idea wasn’t always easy – it took some work.

For the plus size woman, accessorizing is NOT about hiding. In fact, it’s really the opposite. For me, it says that I took the time to look absolutely fabulous in whatever I’m wearing and celebrate my individuality!

Role Models for a Real World: Tyra Banks, Oprah, Wynonna and Me

By: Stacy Montgomery | 04/02/2009 | Fashion
There’s a certain magic that comes with all celebrities – obviously. They are dynamic. They are engaging. In fact, even though we never meet them, they often become role models. Through their work, they invite us to look into ourselves and find the magic inside each of us. For plus size women, these role models also have something that we often have very little of – confidence.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

By: Stacy Montgomery | 27/01/2009 | Fashion
What do we see when we look in the mirror? Do we see someone else’s idea of what we look like? Or do we see our true selves? I often wonder why Snow White’s stepmother didn’t see the true image looking back at her. And that made me think about how I had missed my own true image in my reflection for a long time. I simply didn’t see the truth that beautiful women come in all shapes and sizes.
