Flower power was a slogan used by the American counterculture movement during the late 1960s and early 1970s as a symbol of passive resistance and non-violence ideology, rooted in the opposition movement to the Vietnam War. Hippies embraced the symbolism by dressing in clothing with embroidered flowers and vibrant colors, wearing flowers in their hair, and distributing flowers to the public. The term later became generalized as a modern reference to the hippie movement and a culture of drugs, psychedelic music, psychedelic art and social permissiveness.
Even though some of us might not experience the event directly, we have to admit that era have left one of the most influential fashion styles, the Hippies. Big flower pattern, tie-dyed shirts, platform shoes,vintage t shirt came with bell bottom jeans and wide leather belt, head band and long hair were adorned by the hippies.
Similar to a hippie fashion, retro-bohemian clothing is very comfy and freeing. Try some black jeans, suit jackets, scarves, baggy sweaters and vintage dresses and lots of layering. When in doubt, just throw on a lot of clothes and call it retro bohemian.
Simple was key to 1960s hippie fashion, and so to the extent that women wore jewelry, most of it was handmade or derived from Native American or similar designs influenced by nature. Beads were hugely popular, as was any necklace sporting a peace sign. Music being so much a part of the hippie scene, jewelry that made music was desirable. Some women wore necklaces that featured bells as pendants, and many wore jingly ankle bracelets. The ankles received a lot of attention in general, because many hippies, especially those living on the warm West coast, preferred to go barefoot.
