How to keep your clothes clean
As soon as you get in from work or college, change into older or casual clothe because lots of accident s can happen to your clothes such as spilling nail polish or remover, coffee or food. If you do get stains on your clothes – always remove them at once. Of course, some stains can only be removed by experts, a dry clean.
Here are some solutions for removing common stains:
Black coffee - Stretch the stained area over a bowl. Pour boiling water through and wash thoroughly.
Milk, white coffee, cocoa - Make a paste with borax and water – spread on the soiled areas and leave overnight. Wash thoroughly the next day.
Grease and oil - Place the spot on blotting paper. Make a ring around it with cleaning fluid such as carbon tetrachloride on cotton wool. Rub the area gently with the cleaning fluid. Keep moving the spot to a clean place on the blotter, and repeat until the spot is removed. Dry thoroughly with clean cotton wool.
Rust - Stretch the stained area over boiling water, and rub lemon juice over the stain. Rinse well.
Fruit Stains – Soak in cold water then stretch the stained area over an empty bowl, and pour boiling water through it from above.
Blood - Soak immediately in cold salty water; then wash in warm soapy water – rinse and dry.
Wine Stains - Hold the soiled area in a little boiled milk until the stain has almost vanished. Now wash in the normal way. Or use a mixture of salt and lemon juice and rub into the area and then wash thoroughly.
Tea - Soak overnight in borax and water. Then wash in the normal way.
For cotton and linen fabric, rub the affected area with raw lemon and allow drying under the direct glare of the sun. Otherwise, place the garment in a warm place until dry.
Remember to remove wet clothings as soon as possible. Shake it and place it on a hanger to dry in a warm place. Stuff wet shoes with newspaper and dry them away from heat or they may crack and go out of shape.
