11 Ways to Succeed as a Professional Coach

1. Target a niche area and do not become a jack of all trades.

Targeting a specific market is not easy, for a professional coach can deal with and help many clients, in many areas. But stay focused on what you do best, at what you see your self waking up to every morning, try to picture:

What would you wear to a meeting?

What would the conversation be like?

What is your client age range?

What does your business card look like?

How would you approach prospective clients?

How and where would prospective clients hear about you?

If you were interviewed about your work, in which newspaper would it appear?

What area of coaching do you enjoy the most?

What graphic area do you cover?

Do you coach by phone, e-mail, or face to face?

What is the most natural approach for you?

What would you like to charge as a coaching fee?

Here are just a few examples of niche areas in the coaching profession:

Life Coach.

Business Coach.

Executive Coach.

Start up Coach.

CEO Coach.

Spirituality Coach.

Dating Coach.

Women aged between 20 and 30 returning to work.

Small business Coach.

Financial Coach.

Entertainment Coach.

Retirement Coach.

Money Coach.

ADD Coach.

Gay Community Coach.

Speakers Coach.

Writing Coach.

Creativity Coach.

Parenting Coaching.

2. Choose a short, effective name for your company.

If you are not using your own name, look for a name that:

Reflects what you do.

Reflects who you are.

Gives prospective clients an idea of what to expect.

Is legally available.

Is available on the web. (so you can have the same name as your website).

Easy to pronounce.

Easy to spell.

3. Become a specialist.

People love specialists.

Here are some ways to become a specialist in your niche:

Write as many articles as you can, and share them on the web.

Public Speaking.

Write to a local newspaper.

Write an e-book.

Media, radio, and TV.

4. Develop your marketing message.

Develop it by answering these questions:

What makes you unique?

How are you of additional value to clients?

Why should they come to you?

What products do you offer?

What services do you offer?

What would you want clients to say about you and your coaching services?

5. Develop a website

Think of opening a website as opening a shop in a big mall or shopping center.

Your home page is your window; this is the first thing prospective clients see.

Make it user friendly.

Give people a reason to come in, and to stay.

Give them a reason to come back again with others.

Offer free reports, articles, e-courses and e-books.

Tell visitors about what you can do for them.

Display testimonials, about us/contact us pages, code of ethics.

Secure the emails of your visitors and follow up.

With a bi-weekly newsletter - prove your worth!

6. Marketing and Promotion

Here are some things to think about:

Public speaking engagements.

Web marketing and optimization. Don't forget, you may have the best coaching website in the world, but if nobody comes to you it all doesn't matter.

Press releases.

Articles.

Newspaper adverts.

Coaching directories.

Public relations.

Barters.

Making your web dynamic.

Writing to newspapers, and websites.

Using the media.

7. Stationery

Make your company or name a brand.

You will need:

Logo.

Business cards.

Letter head paper.

Fax paper.

Compliment slips.

Invoices.

Signature for mails.

8. Organize a comfortable place to work.

It could be at home, it can be in an office, where ever you are comfortable.

As long as it has a door for privacy.

Have a nice desk, computer, paper, and all that you need for a coaching session.

9. Get an accountant.

Ask around in order to find the right accountant for you.

A good accountant will save you money.

10. Insure yourself

If you work from home make sure you have insurance for Materials, computer etc.

There is no Insurance for the coaching profession yet, but any one who has a client base and offers services can apply for insurance coverage.

Ask your Insurance Company, your lawyer or your accountant for more information.

11. Make your company a PTY LTD.

By doing this, you are separating your personal life from your business life.

Some countries demand a certain amount of revenue per year, so in some cases it is not possible to do so.

Ask your accountant for more information.
