Changing Your Perspective For Success: DIAMONDS FROM THE SKY
As my plane broke through the cloud cover on its descent into Chicago I opened my eyes. I took a good long look down, itching for some new visual stimulation.
There they were…diamonds. Lots of diamonds.
Not the stones. Baseball diamonds. Softball diamonds too (although many of those do double duty as Little League baseball diamonds).
I suppose it depends on where you're flying into. Rural areas have lots of farm and pasture land surrounding the airports. And of course there are the ubiquitous swimming pools, with their brilliant blue rectangles drawing the eye in the typical suburban sprawl.
But today it was the diamonds.
I wondered what was up with this. How come I hadn't noticed them before? Sure I was aware of them. But today they seemed to be everywhere.
Was this some kind of movement? Did I miss a major shift toward America's pastime? Did we start a wave of construction when I wasn't looking?
Inside the gate, waiting for my connecting flight I called my friend Linda and asked if she'd noticed the phenomenon. She hadn't. Being a resident of New York City, she was more interested if knowing if I'd seen the Sears Tower (I hadn't. The flight path didn't allow for views of the Chicago skyline).
What does it all mean? A nice flight of fancy, sure (no pun intended).
But what does it mean? What does it mean for you?
Here's my impression, and it's an age old one. We always have, and always will see what is in our consciousness. I'm a baseball fan from Day One. So my brain recognizes baseball diamonds, even in the sky, and at a subconscious level. If I were a Satanist I suppose I'd be looking for pentagrams in cornfields. Good thing I'm not.
Our brains crave stimulation and information. Where there is an absence of either we go to work filling in the blanks. And of course we fill them in with that which most closely matches our own thoughts and emotions.
For Larry, baseball diamonds are home. They're comfort. They're striking out opposing batters. Even in losing, they're comfort in understanding the rules and appreciating the usually friendly competition.
Try playing this little game next time you fly. See what pops up for you. It's a fun way to find your own orientation in life.
Don't like what you see? Change your focus. You can make that choice anytime you want.
Diamonds await you!
Your Far Flung Friend,
Larry

A couple of months ago I was getting ready to start the day. Downstairs at the laptop, doing my thing. Drinking my tea, checking my emails, writing out my intentions for the day. Now I'm still not sure how the thought popped into my head...perhaps it's best I don't know. Maybe someone was talking about children's shows. Maybe someone was talking about doom and gloom and it registered in my subconscious. But there it was - The Black Teletubby of Death.
