Choose Your Influences Wisely And Watch Your Life Expands

Posted: Feb 23, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Influences are all around us.  The TV ads that we watch, the news that we read, the music that we tune in to as well as the books that we read can have profound influence on us.  The people we associate with most of the time also play a big role in influencing our emotional well-being and shaping our thoughts, beliefs, behaviors and value system.

Positive influences expand our life while negative influences diminish our life.  Often, these influences do not change us overnight.  The effect is gradual.  Slowly but surely.  And the end result can be powerful.  Or deadly.  Never ever underestimate influences.  Since we are aware of the power of positive influences and danger of negative influences, we need to make a conscious effort to weed out or limit negative influences while we invite more of the positive influences into our life.

Spend less time on TV ads that do not add value.  Skip news that are horrifying and destructive in nature.  Unless you think there are lessons to be learned.  Listen to happy tunes.  Why set yourself to melancholy mood by listening to sad songs?  Unless you feel it can provide the temporary emotional relief you badly need.  Choose to read materials that are uplifting, engaging and inspiring.  Learn from the great men and sages.  The more you read, the more you become what you read.

Sometimes it may not be possible to cut-off certain people from your life completely.  Maybe a dream-killer friend or a difficult colleague.  That being the case, limit your association with them.  Choose not to inhale the toxic air.  Choose to inhale invigorating fresh air.  Spend more time with positive people.  Those whom you will feel energized in their presence.  Those whom you will feel happy just being with them.

Make the decision.  Choose positive influences.  Weed out negative influences.  And watch your life expands.

As a Man Thinketh is birthed by the Bible verse from Proverbs chapter 23 verse 7, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is.” As Allen expresses it, "Act is the blossom of thought, and joy and suffering are its fruit; thus does a man garner in the sweet and bitter fruitage of his own husbandry."

Can you think of any negative or limiting beliefs you are currently holding? Whether of yourself, another person, an activity, a place, a type of food, a type of job etc. Be open to the possibility that what you are holding may not really be the truth even though you may have held them for ages. Think about it. Re-look at it. And hopefully something wonderful and refreshing awaits you.

Sometimes we can get terribly upset and hurt when others let us down especially so if they are our loved ones. Our world shatters when their behavior runs counter to the way we expect them to be. We harbor ill feelings. We bear a grudge. We cannot accept their behavior. Why must they hurt us like that? Before you wallow further in your sorrows, why not ask yourself, "Hey, am I perfect in the first place?"

Have you ever been told that you are hopeless at something? Have you ever been told that you are not cut out for a job? Have you somehow lost faith after having gone through some bad experiences? If your answer is positive, do have second thought. Re-examine the situation. Be open to possibility as the truth may turn out to be otherwise.
