Don't Expect Others To Live Your Dreams

Posted: Mar 09, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Do you have a habit of telling others how they should be living their lives?

You may have insisted that your child study medicine even though his interest may be in the arts.  And your motivation for doing so?  To fulfill your long cherished dream of becoming a doctor.  Since you have not been able to achieve your dream and that, given your current circumstances,  you feel that you no longer stand a chance, you just want your child to accomplish this dream.

You may be dead against your spouse's decision to switch from being a salaried employee to an entrepreneur.  Your argument is why rock the boat when he is bringing home a good income.  The new venture is risky and does not guarantee success.  What if it fails?  How are you going to manage the household expenses and all those bills?

Your best friend has been offered an overseas assignment.  The offer is attractive and she is keen on it.  But, she has to be away for a good many years.  You do not wish to see her go as she has always been the one with a shoulder for you to cry on.  You advise her against going, telling her that she may have problems settling down in the new country and even if she finally does, she may lose her position in the company when she returns.

Sometimes, we may think that we have good intentions when we intervene.  But, every person is unique.  Each and every one has their own life to live.  Only the individual knows what is best for himself.  Don't kill their dreams.  Let them pursue their passion and purpose.  Give your opinions, but let them decide.  As ultimately they are the ones walking the journey.

Society's message is that we are to study hard, work hard, be responsible, get a good steady job, make more money, climb the corporate ladder and/or be in a 'respectable' job. Yes, a 'respectable' job...whatever that is! The message is heard throughout our lives and has a dramatic impact on...

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year. March 21 is officially the first day of spring and longer and warmer days will be here soon. This is the time of year when we begin to long for warmer weather activities. Many of us are contemplating summer vacations, family reunions, planting gardens, trips to the beach, picnics and barbecues to name a few. For me, it's a most welcome season of the year. Seasons of life

Like it or not, we are all gladiators. We go to sleep and wake up in a social arena from which there is no escape. Challenge upon challenge confronts us, walls restrain us, and a mob of spectators mocks, sneers, or cheers us. Each and every day brings new battles whether we want them or not and whether we're

Can you think of any negative or limiting beliefs you are currently holding? Whether of yourself, another person, an activity, a place, a type of food, a type of job etc. Be open to the possibility that what you are holding may not really be the truth even though you may have held them for ages. Think about it. Re-look at it. And hopefully something wonderful and refreshing awaits you.

Sometimes we can get terribly upset and hurt when others let us down especially so if they are our loved ones. Our world shatters when their behavior runs counter to the way we expect them to be. We harbor ill feelings. We bear a grudge. We cannot accept their behavior. Why must they hurt us like that? Before you wallow further in your sorrows, why not ask yourself, "Hey, am I perfect in the first place?"
