If You Want To Do Something, Do It Well
Whether you are a housewife, a social worker, a handyman, a petrol kiosk attendant, an office worker or your own boss, choose to excel in whatever you do.
I believe you must have come across friends or colleagues who would only do the bare minimum of work just to get paid every month. If they are supposed to report for work by 8.30am, they would show up by then. But, they would take their own sweet time, visit the rest room, have breakfast at their desk or pantry room and when they are done, it would be past 9.00am already.
During working hours, they tend to look busy. And when no one is looking, they would happily engage in their personal stuff, whether surfing the net or on the line. Half an hour before the official knock-off time, they would start tidying their table and head for the rest room. They work at their own pace, without regard to customers’ needs, without regard to the company’s guideline. Their motto is – just do that little bit since they are only paid that little bit.
Don’t adopt such a loser mentality. By producing shoddy work, you are not short-changing the boss, but yourself. You are damaging your reputation. You are sabotaging your self-worth.
Life is short. Live it well. Give your level best in whatever you do. Even when no one is looking. Go for the extra mile. Make a difference. Take pride in your work. When you continue to deliver more than you are paid for, the rewards will have to catch up with your work, if not more.
Live up to your good name. If you want to do something, do it well. Don’t sabotage yourself with anything less.
