Persistence, The Key To Leadership Success
Persistence is a determined skill that the leaders of this world possess in abundance, that is without a doubt.
There are a number of factors which influence persistence but I believe discipline, vision and faith are the most influential of all.
Persistence is probably the single most common quality of high achievers. To persist is to refuse to give up despite obstacles, excuses and exhaustion. Athletes refuse to give up, they keep training despite pain, injury, long hours and exhaustion. Why?, because they have a goal, a purpose, a vision, and the victory is worth it, every bit of the blood, sweat and tears it took them to get to the top. The recent Winter Olympic Games demonstrated that, victory was so very sweet for the number of medalists, it was worth all the years of training and the injuries they had incurred because of it. Again, it cannot be demonstrated more so than in the ParaOlympians who, despite physical and mental disabilities have persisted and overcome these barriers to be supreme athletes. Persistence is in all the athletes who did not receive medals, they choose to show up again and again and vow to do better at the next Games, because they have a vision of their life they are not going to give up on.
Discipline and persistence are habit forming. They can be manufactured through continued repetition, mindset and willpower.
Wanting to lose weight requires willpower and the discipline to eat less and exercise regularly, not to give into temptation and quit. Instead maintain the vision and embrace the mindset of what you will look like at your goal weight, how you will feel when you put on those jeans and how your life and you have changed because you have achieved something great and you feel amazing because of it. Lack of persistence and discipline means you will not reach your goal, it is the major cause of failure.
We can all come up with excuses as to why we have not completed a task. I ran out of time, I was too tired, I had to do the lawn, but they are just excuses, and excuses never win. A leader wouldn't make excuses. A leader is disciplined and persistent in completing the tasks they have set, knowing they are one step closer to realising their goals.
Leaders carry with them at all times the vision of their life, their goal, their dream and have an unwavering faith in themselves that they will accomplish this.
The fear of failure, worrying what other people will think and indecisiveness will not help you to achieve your dream, it will get you nowhere, it has no reward. Belief in yourself and the faith of seeing what you believe is you reward.
By making definite plans you remove the guesswork, guessing instead of knowing simply destroys persistence and sets you up for failure. There can be no room for doubt, fear and worry. Focus on the task in front, do not look left, do not look right and never look back, the past is in the past you cannot change it. Look forward, that is your future and make it what you want it to be, you can reach your goal if you have the faith and belief in yourself and persist.
The vision of your life must be big, big enough so that you will persist without exception. There is no way you cannot succeed without embracing this concept. Do not allow yourself to quit, you are only giving in to the fear and the worry and will never win. Persistence is required despite exhaustion and when unforeseen obstacles are presented before you, despite thorough planning, you must remain strong, disciplined and focused. Persist and use it as an opportunity to be creative, use your imagination to find a different path. The anguish of learning is quickly forgotten when great results are achieved. Harness your willpower, look forward toward your goals, have the faith and belief in yourself, keep persisting and you will win. You deserve it.
