Powerful Gratitude Exercise – Life Coaching

Posted: Sep 02, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

So what actions can you take today to immediately take advantage of the power of gratitude? The first thing that I'd recommend is something that I recommend to all of my coaching students when they come to me. That is the 10/10 visualization process.

I've coached 8,000 people over the years, and most of them have come to me in some sort of stuck state. That's generally where people come to me. They're stuck in some way, and one of the quickest ways to get unstuck is through a process of gratitude and visioning, and that's what the 10/10 visualization is.

So here's what I want you to do. I want you to make a list of 10 things that you love about your life today right now; go in your life and look at everything you're grateful for. Then I want you to make a list of 10 goals and dreams that you want to accomplish. I like to look in 10 different categories. You can look in your family, your primary relationship, your spiritual life, your mental, emotional life, your physical body, your children. You can look in your financial life, your business life; contributions that you're making, social life, recreation, hobbies. There are so many areas that you can set goals in.

So make a list of 10 things you're grateful; 10 goals and dreams, and then every night before you go to bed so leave this list on your night stand next to your bed. Every night before you go to bed review both lists; 10 things I'm grateful for; 10 things that I want to accomplish. Then close your eyes and as you're drifting off to sleep I want to visualize the things that you are grateful for and get into that grateful state. Now this is not easy to do. It may take 21 times of doing this before you actually get to that place where you are moved to tears of joy. If you're not moved to tears of joy, don't even worry about that; just you want to get focused in on what you're grateful for.

When you visualize things you're grateful for your mind starts to say, "Wait a second my life is good," and so you don't get the monkey coming in saying, "You're so stupid, and you'll never accomplish that, and what about all these things and you're fat and you're ugly, and this doesn't work right." That's what happens a lot of times when we go to visualize our goals and dreams. So, by going to what you're grateful for first, you give yourself a basis with which to then you can build upon, and your mind will more easily accept your goals and dreams.

As an executive coach, I notice one shift in mindset can translate to amazing results. As a life coach, I see people experiencing so much joy, love, peace and happiness in all areas of their lives – business, home, relationships with others, health. Setting the Law of Attraction into motion to achieve what you want can be a powerful force along this path. And I know this, and still I myself make mistakes.

As Inspired Action life coach, my job is to support people to let go of those things that don't make them feel good and support movement towards those things that do feel good. So many people are caught in a world that is off balance. It's off balance because they desire or want something more in their life. They don't want their lives to be all work and no play.

If you're interested in finding work that is your life purpose, and you don't feel like you are there yet, there is a way to get there. You need to actually begin to accept, appreciate, and honor the work that you do.

I got an e-mail in from one of my clients asking this question, "How do I let go of the destructive need to please others over myself?" She says some examples of this. She says, "When I was in high school, I secured a part in the play, and then my friends got kicked out of the play. And so I walked out with them. In going to college, I wanted to go to Stanford. My dad didn't know Stanford. He wanted me to go to MIT. So I chose MIT just to please my father.
