This is not a how-to on Internet marketing, writing sales letters that pull like crazy, recruiting 10 reps per hour, event management at hotels, time management, or any sales technique. You will need all of these skills and techniques at some point, but the purpose of this article is to make you aware of the what you will need to learn and be to become successful after you have mastered the basics.

"Your way of being can be more important than what you are doing for your success."
-- Dr. Anthony Cecala, Successful Network Marketer

Internet marketing is one of the most misunderstood aspects of network marketing today, but it represents great opportunity for those that master it. Pay per click, Article Marketing and Blogging are my favorites but of course there are a host of other techniques including but not limited to the following:

* Ezines
* Joint Ventures
* Postcard Mailings
* Magalogs (Catalogs That Look Like Magazines)
* Direct Mail
* Spots In Other People's Catalogs
* Banner Ads
* Radio
* TV
* Press Releases (Online And Off)
* Teleseminars
* Webinars
* Magazines
* Newspaper Classifieds
* Speaking At Seminars
* Inserts In Newspapers, Magazines Or Mail-Order Shipments (This Is Called "Insert Media")
* Viral Marketing
* Social Marketing (Through Sites Like Myspace)
* Linking Strategies
* Free Search Engine Listings
* CPA And CPM Networks
* Forums
* Online Videos
* Cell Phone Ads (Bet You Never Thought Of This One!)
* And The list goes on...

You will have to study these various forms of advertising, but do not spread yourself too thin psychologically or financially. You must pick no more than one or two that fit your personality and budget and leave the others alone while you drill down and really master your chosen advertising techniques.

And yet, this is only a small part of what you will have to learn to really succeed at network marketing. You will need a lot more than great marketing and what you will need are intangible assets that come from inside yourself. Everyone cannot be a success at network marketing. Of course, you know that, right?

Even you, my good reader, may not be able to truly succeed at network marketing. There are certain qualities of BEING that are essential to success even more than what you are DOING. Of course, this presumes you are doing what you need to be doing to succeed such as marketing, follow-up, training and supporting your downline.

But after the basics, to go to the next level, you will need to work on your own habits, attitudes and internal motivations.

So, here are the 6 "magic" words of network marketing success.

1. Ruthlessness

This is a strange word, but the correct one, I believe. It signifies how you must protect and manage your time and attention. Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day, but you cannot afford to waste a single one. These are your most valuable resources. Cut out distractions.

Allocate time for your family and your main obligations. Give your employer the time to which you have agreed. Be on time for work so that you can leave work on time. By leaving work on time you can make appointments to call clients, downline, and still have time for your family. Be jealous of everything you do everyday and ask yourself, "Is this consistent with my family and business priorities and goals?".

2. Congruency

If you do not believe in what you are selling, 100%, you are a liar. It doesn't matter if you are selling cars, insurance, water filters, pills, potions, lotions, or silly putty. If you do this you are lying to your customer, your sponsor, you are lying to your spouse, you are lying to your downline, and worst of all, you are lying to yourself.

To be in congruence means to be in harmony with everything you are doing. It's a crime against yourself and your family to sell something in which you do not have full confidence. Your thoughts and your actions must be in accord. Now this is separate from possibly being lied to by the company or officials of the company.

If, given the information at your disposal, you believe in what you are selling, then you are congruent with your actions and therefore are on track for success.

3. Willingness

Are you willing to do what it takes. Some things are fun and many are not fun. All of these tasks are necessary to your success. Follow-up tasks may not always be fun, but as the network marketing cliche goes, "The fortune is in the Follow-up".

Olympic skaters and swimmers who are in the gym at 4:00am doing the things that others will not so they can have the things that others will not is the purest model. You have to be willing to help, to talk, to do just that much extra. This is a universal to true walk-away residual income success in network marketing.

That kind of success is made of many factors company, compensation, product and market but to a person these ultra-successful entrepreneurs will say that have always been willing to go the extra mile. Now it's your turn. Are you that good?

4. Foolishness

You must be willing to take risks and to seem foolish. You have to take a chance on your 1st or 2nd or 13th presentation being the one of which you are proud. Are you willing to be on stage, in front of 1 person or 20, and say things that may be incorrect?

Remember the old networking chestnut "Ignorance on fire is better than Knowledge on ice" well, I certainly believe that being in motion is more important than having every answer correct. You just have to continue to work on that ignorance even while you are in motion and not use that ignorance or the embarrassment it can cause as an excuse to do nothing. Action is critical.

You must be in motion, somewhat in control, and learning from your mistakes constantly. Be involved constantly on the edge of your competence. You must stretch and learn constantly. Be a fool or do not. Choose.

5. Vigilance

You should constantly be looking for new opportunities. Search the news for articles regarding your marketplace or your company's competitors. Look for new markets and ways of reaching those markets. Use the Internet, Google News Alerts(tm), and any resources you can develop.

Talk to local governmental agencies which oversee your marketplace for new marketing ideas. Do not sit and wait for your company or your upline to open new avenues of marketing or product lines, engage your whole mind. If you want to be successful it might, just might, take all of you. Twenty percent or 75 percent of you may just not be enough. Leave nothing to chance.

6. Courage

Be courageous. Look at what is holding you back. Examine your fears, face them, and challenge yourself to push the envelope, one fear at a time. New actions, new ways of being can make your new life seem disruptive. If you are achieving your goals, your friends and your family may say that you've changed and are no the person you once were. They would be right.

Make those sales calls. Speak to those large groups. Talk to local governmental officials. Discipline and Focus are required. Be demanding of yourself and your team. Ask for commitments from your people and do not accept their limiting beliefs as gospel. Challenge them on why something cannot be done.

You can no longer be just as "nice" as you once were. You have to be direct, to the point, and congruent with your goals. If this means that what others want to do or be is not congruent with the new you, then so be it. You may lose friends and you have to be vigilant to prepare your family for the changes to come, in your schedule, in your attitudes about television and leisure time.

Success cannot be purchased. Success has no price, but success will cost you. Believe that.

It will cost Ruthlessness, Congruency, Willingness, Foolishness, Vigilance and Courage. I guarantee that only six things are required for the most amazing success you can imagine in network marketing, but I can also guarantee you will spend the rest of your life mastering these concepts.

True success in any walk of life is a matter of personal growth. True leadership comes from within, not from without. Look to your daily habits of success and the 6 "magic" words of network marketing success as the truest compass on your journey.
