Three High Self-Esteem Habits

Posted: Jul 25, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Think positively. When you become skilled at thinking positive thoughts in general you will naturally start to think more positively about yourself as well. Thoughts creates feelings. The more positively you think about yourself, the more positively you feel about yourself. High self-esteem is in essence feeling good about yourself. Training yourself in the art of positive thinking will therefore help you to improve your self-esteem. Noticing and letting go of negative thoughts or turning negative thoughts into positive are great self-esteem habits.

Only worry about things that you have the power to change. Many people spend lots of time worrying about things that they have no to power to change, such as coming late because of technical problems with the train that they are sitting in or natural disasters (earthquakes, hurricanes, floods etc). Worrying about such things gets you into a bad mood and you might start to feel helpless and out of control of your life. These are not good feelings for your self-esteem. To have a high self-esteem you will need to feel that you are in control of your life and that you can shape it as you want it. Therefore, only worry about things that you CAN change. For example, if you worry about a future exam you can start to study more so that you will feel better able to get a good score. When you think about things that you have the ability to influence, you will probably take steps to do something about them. This will put you into the front seat of your life. You will have the steering wheel and you decide where your life is going.

Give compliments. A good self-esteem habit is to give many compliments – both to yourself and to others. When you become skilled at positive thinking you will notice more positive aspects both within yourself and within others. When you point out your positive qualities to yourself you will make yourself happy and your self-esteem will raise. When you give others compliments you make them happy and more likely to return the favour by giving you compliments back. Hearing compliments from others and surrounding yourself by happy loving people are great for your self-esteem.
