What about Your Space For Success?

Posted: Feb 24, 2011 |

RainbowRecently, a wonderful fellow coach and friend, Joy DeKok, who is a Certified Writing Coach, sent out her newsletter talking about the importance of our writing spaces.

She reminded us that the space we use to do our writing influences our work.

So In order to be successful, we must make sure we have a "good" space in which to work in.  Anne Barton, CVA Extraordinaire and right hand person, and I were just talking about this same thing…. Anne has just moved into her new office space, which has everything she needs as well as gives her privacy to work.  And I have just relocated back to Florida and am in the process of re-setting up my own work space.

The difference our spaces make is incredible!

My space is a second bedroom, which has all my books and tools and much memorabilia that had been stored away for years through my many moves.  I feel so good having all of my "stuff" near me as I type away on my keyboard.  I feel so organized and productive as I have all of my tools in easy access. I know where everything is. I'm not particularly OCD, but I cannot work in chaos.  Now, I can function!

Having just moved back from a successful (albeit, cold) "vacation" in Indianapolis, I am reminded how much better I feel in warmth and sunshine.  That can be said for many folks, I know.    In this beautiful and sometimes wild place (hurricanes, alligators, and the everglades) I feel I can work well.  I can function in this environment better than many other places.  Some say I am lucky to be living in Florida and I agree to some extent…but it really was a concerted effort and decision on my part to move here.  I had a map of Florida tacked to the wall in front of my desk for a long time before I made the actual initial move.  I did research and scouted out opportunities for many months before taking the plunge.  But I still hear it all the time…

"You're so Lucky to live in such a beautiful and warm place like Florida.  I wish I could move but I just can't."

Okay, well, you may know what I am going to say.  You can make the move if you REALLY WANT to.  You really don't want to for whatever reasons…be it loved ones, work, or fears that keep you put.  And that is okay.  You should be able to live where you want and do what you want to do.  But don't kid yourself.  Are you happy?  If so…FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!

So now we come to the most important Space that is required for Success: The Space between your ears.

Your state of mind, your own belief system, your mindfulness.  We tend to forget we ARE the Entrepreneurs of our own lives.  We are responsible for our own Success and Happiness.  So much scientific research and so many wonderful resources have come out on the power of our own thoughts.  It's not just positive thinking and wishing that gets things done.  It is much more than that.

But the fact remains – if you don't have your head space focused on happiness and success – you won't get it.

Or as I'd rather say it – Keep your head high and focused forward and you will clear the jumps.  It takes a concerted and constant effort to not get stuck in the gunk of everyday life.  But it can be done.

As I see it, Life is Like a Trail Ride…You Can Take Control or be Taken for a Ride.Horse on Trail

Success is simple but not easy, especially all by yourself.

So many books and programs are just plain daunting and overwhelming .  We seek success, make plans, set goals but lose resolve, fall off the wagon and fail to follow through. I see life as a Trail Ride because of all the experiences in my life that I've been challenged by, I always think of my Trail Rides with my best Horse Peeps, Heidi and Connie, as the most wonderful times of my life.  Sitting on top of a trusty horse and strolling along a path or charging up a steep hill can be the most relaxing and the most exhilarating feelings ever.  I see our own life journeys like that.  I see the horse as part of our selves – as our own instincts and desires.  We can fight our horses and have miserable rides or work together as a team for a journey of bliss.

And as you know, we can become more successful with the help of others.

Remember, even the Lone Ranger had Tonto.  Because as I see it – It is important for us to help others become successful in whatever it is that they want to do because – the more of us that can become successful – the more of us that can contribute to a better world for all.   Together, we CAN make a difference!

See ya' down the Trail!

I'll do "IT" tomorrow...some day...when I get around to "IT"...when I have more time...Really? You've probably heard it before, but when an idea or dream hits you, you need to take action - inspired action. Sitting around thinking about "IT" or wishing for "IT" won't make "IT" happen. "IT" is the idea or dream. "IT" is the inspiration and the action is up to you.
