A Coffee Grinder Could Be The Perfect Accessory

Posted: Jun 09, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Coffee purists frequently explain how the very best coffee originates from beans ground immediately prior to the coffee being brewed. This is a common refrain that veteran coffee drinkers know by heart. It makes sense, then, that no kitchen is complete without some sort of coffee grinder that is up to the job of transforming your selected beans into a perfect cup of coffee.

What Constitutes A Perfect Coffee Grinder?

In the world of the coffee grinder presently there are two fundamental types: burr grinders and blade grinders. The difference between the alternatives in fact is the way the coffee beans are processed. Burr grinders utilize, of course, burrs, that resemble plates with gears fitted. One of the burrs spins and grinds the beans against the other burr, that remains fixed. Blade coffee grinders use a spinning blade to grind the coffee beans.

In terms of great espresso coffee, there are specific factors that have an affect on the end product. The most important of these are temperature and uniformity. Considering that the process of grinding coffee is relatively violent, both burr and blade grinders produce some warmth. Heat is undesirable in a coffee grinder because it causes damage to the coffee. The more rapid the grinding process, the more heat that becomes imparted to the coffee. Finer grinds also gather heat due to the extra time spent being ground.

One way around the dilemma of heat is to buy an overpriced but amazing low-speed burr grinder. The low speed might mean it takes slightly longer to change your beans into ground coffee, but someone who has used one of these gems will attest to the quality of coffee they produce.

Another essential quality factor is the uniformity of the grind. In the extracting process, the water spends a certain period of time passing over the grinds. Uniform grinds are considerably more successful at imparting taste to the water. It could be hard to tell from a simple glimpse, but blade grinders perform a poor job of creating a uniform grind. Burr grinders, conversely, produce remarkably uniform grinds, providing a much better cup of coffee.

Definitely, when choosing a coffee grinder, a burr coffee grinder will be the way to go. A few of the higher-end versions can cost several hundred dollars, positioning them outside the reach of many shoppers. This should not imply that a small spending budget usually gets an inadequate coffee grinder. A number of internet sites featuring burr grinders have versions under $100. Even though that may seem somewhat pricey, it's an investment in improving upon a daily ritual, and who can place a dollar value on a superior cup of espresso every day?
