Coffee and Its Affects on Your Body

If you have ever seen "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", you'll recall that the father figure swore that Windex could be the answer for every illness. Likewise, coffee, some would likely maintain, may be the elixir of life. So much in fact, that the sweet fragrance of coffee tickles a lot of people out of sleep in the early morning. Forget about an alarm clock, the bedside coffee machine would be the way to get me out of bed.

Coffee is such an innate aspect of our way of life that not even a day passes by without us paying homage to the neighborhood cafe, or maybe at worst, the office coffee maker. But this infatuation (err, compulsion) to coffee isn't all that bad. Aside from the periodic coffee discolored teeth, the health advantages of coffee further confirm coffee addicts' love of the stuff. Without a doubt, coffee is near and dear to large numbers of people all over the world, but it's time to set feelings away and discuss the scientific data about coffee and its effects on the body; if for no other purpose than to provide coffee lovers more good reason to drink it.

Scientifically, the chemical substances found in coffee have the following effects:

Works as a Stimulant: The the level of caffeine content in coffee works to make it a well-known stimulant. Not only will it interact with the nervous system, but it regulates intestinal functions, blood pressure, and also airway size. In aggregate, this causes the sensation of alertness right after consuming caffeine, but can also hinder sleep, and result in nervousness and jitters.

Potentially Result in Heartburn: A widespread issue of non-coffee consumers is that they will at times experience heartburn. There's truth to this as all types of coffee, even decaf from time to time lead to the creation of stomach acid.

Diuretic Characteristics: Caffeine will cause kidneys to produce urine to make it possible to eliminate excessive fluid from the body. In many cases, it is so efficient as a diuretic, it may well even bring about slight dehydration.

Enhancing Brain Function: Current scientific studies have revealed that heavy coffee users, people that ingest 5-6 cups every day have a reduced chance of acquiring Alzheimer's disease than individuals who consume 2-3 cups.

Alternatively, some health care professionals claim that frequent caffeine use causes considerable health issues such as stomach problems, gall bladder disease, as well as several forms of cancer. The research on the other hand, isn't conclusive enough to state that caffeine is harmful for cardiac patients or pregnant women. All in all, far more research needs to be completed into the negative effects of coffee. One study concerning the association of caffeine and pancreatic cancer was discredited as being a flawed study. Thus, there is still much analysis to be completed.

Apart from its stimulating effects, caffeine is known for having the following beneficial characteristics:

Stimulating Breath: People who have lately gone through surgery are sometimes treated with caffeine to help to induce breathing. This particular approach is sometimes also used for premature babies. In addition, researchers have proven that caffeine dilates airways, modestly assisting asthma sufferers. For this reason, caffeine intake needs to be eliminated prior to breathing tests so as not to temporarily mask breathing problems a patient may have.

Managing Headaches: A typical element in over the counter pain relief medication is acetaminophen, aspirin, and also caffeine. This may be because many headaches are connected to caffeine withdrawal.

Preventing Disease: Researchers conclude that moderate coffee intake may well decrease the risk of having diabetes, prostate cancer, Alzheimer's disease, kidney stones, as well as depression. Of course, keeping a healthy lifestyle which includes physical activity and consuming lots of fruits and vegetables are crucial elements as well.

To sum up, while coffee does have modest health risks, the huge positive aspects cannot be ignored.
