What Are Thermal Carafe Coffee Makers

If you are addicted to fresh roasted coffee like I am, then you need access to great coffee throughout the day. I guzzle a minimum of 10 cups of coffee a day, whether morning, afternoon, or evening. Is that excessive? Yes! I did say I was an addict, didn't I?

But if you consume as much coffee as me then one problem is that you get stuck drinking old, unfresh coffee. The main cause of this is using a heated brunder to keep the pot hot, and also air gets into the coffee. The coffee makers with glass carafes and burners are simple to , but taste is the most important thing so these days I own a thermal carafe coffee maker, and plan to never buy heated burner coffee makers again.

What is a thermal carafe? It's a coffee pot made of stainless stell that holds heat inside for hours on endwith no need for a heated burner, similar to a thermos (which has the same root as the word "thermal"). The result is fresher, more delicious coffee all throughout the day. You can open the carafe and pour yourself a cup several hours after preparation and the coffee will taste freshly brewed. Thermal carafes of course vary in quality, but they normally keep coffee hot for 4-6 hours, and sometimes longer, all the while maintaining the flavour not just the heat.

Compare that to a coffee maker with a glass carafe and a heated burner, which can maintain your coffee's heat for hours but all the while the flavour diminishes.I personally notice an acrid flavour just an hour after preparation, and if the pot has been sitting on the burner for 2 hours or more then I can't even drink its contents. In the past I would get around this problem by brewing smaller amounts of coffee more frequently, which was a huge time sink.

Thermal carafe coffee makers are not aboslute perfection, because you still have to preheat the water before you make the coffee. This can lead to a bit of a time squeeze if you are in a hurry. But since they have the fantastic ability to maintain both the heat and flavour of each and every pot you brew, you can make coffee less frequently than you would with a glass carafe coffee maker. If you down coffee all day long and flavour is as important to you as it is to me, then a thermal carafe coffee maker is essential.
