How To Find Arrowheads
Still trying to figure out how to find arrowheads? There is no real secret to a successful arrowhead hunt; it takes some skill and a little bit of luck. But, following these tips will give you the upper-hand on your next arrowhead hunting adventure.
The important advice I can give is that you never want to go looking for arrowheads on land you don't have permission to, no matter how tempting it is. Ask the land owner for permission to hunt for arrowheads. Oftentimes, you will find a nice owner who has no problem letting you roam around for a few hours. This can also build up a longtime relationship and allow you to hunt more in the future.
Government owned land is typically off-limits, unless you have permission. The problem with getting permission is that most of the "overseers" of the land have to ask their supervisor or boss, which they usually don't take the time to do.
Now, lets talk about finding good spots to arrowhead hunt. I've always had good luck in small streams. Look in streams when the water is residing and you can see some of the banks of the stream. You will need a good eye, but look closely for rocks that don't look like they were formed naturally. You can usually spot an arrowhead by sharp sides and a point. Once you find one, there's a good chance others are around, so keep looking!
Another good spot to look at is dried up creek beds where the water usually runs into. These are great spots because when the creek is running, they will pick up the arrowheads and carry them into creek bed, and once it's dried up, they are great for hunting.
These are just a few of my favorite spots to find arrowheads. Remember, arrowheads are everywhere here in the U.S. I once asked a landowner to hunt for arrowheads on their land and they responded by telling me to go ahead, but its already been hunted years ago. I went on to find one of the largest collections of Native American arrowheads in my life. So, don't give up!
Arrowhead hunting is a fun hobby that gives you a chance to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Look in the places I've mentioned above and follow my tips and you will be well on your way to a successful arrowhead hunt!
