Cheap car insurance for students is very hard to come by and can be insanely expensive...

It's mainly expensive because most students will finish University before they are 25, and don't get a chance to build a decent no claims bonus. Also companiesthat do offer cheap car insurance for students will assume everyone under 25 years old is a reckless driver, so if you have an accident you will probably have to pay a percentage towards the cost of repair, and your premium will go sky-high... Not good!

Here are some tips to help you keep your student car insurance costs down at University:

Be a good driver!  Don't have any accidents and avoid getting parking tickets, and you will be considered a safe driver and your premium should drop. Simple!

Go on your parents insurance. Going on your parents insurance is fantastic way to get cheap car insurance for students. It only depends if your parents are willing! The only disadvantage is you probably won't earn no claims, but the money you will be saving should balance that out.

Don't ever drive without insurance.  It might seem tempting and it would certainly save money, but if you get caught or have an accident you will probably lose your licence, get into debt, wreck your credit score and be paying out of the nose for your insurance for the next decade or so.. You'll definitely never get cheap student car insurance again!

Do without a car?  Depending on your lifestyle, you might not even need a car at University... You can get cheap advance rail or bus fares back home, which will probably cost the same amount of money in petrol. 90% of students don't have a car at University and choose to either walk or use public transport. It's up to you!

Shop around for quotes. It might seem like a pain in the arse trawling through quotes to save £5 a month... but that's £60 in your pocket at the end of the year! It really pays to shop around if you're looking for cheap car insurance for students.
