CAT 2010 result day: A painful day, but joys for many
Though CAT 2010 results were officially declared yesterday, on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, many CAT takers could not check their results throughout the day, even till late evening due to the malfunctioning CAT website, www.catiim.in. Lucky were the ones who logged on to the website early morning, after which it was not accessible for most of the CAT 2010 takers trying to check their results. Surbhi, a CAT 2010 taker said, "At my hand when I fill up my details for result then it is asking for a code and there is no code box on the page.......how will I know my result?"
At the same time, when the CAT takers looked out for ways to check results but could not, IIM Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Calcutta, Ranchi and Shillong declared their short list of candidates. This helped the candidates to know whether they have been selected by the IIMs or not, even though they were in dark about their scores and percentiles.
While some got excited to know that they have been selected by the IIMs, others who could not find out their CAT 2010 Serial Number in the list of the IIM short lists became desperate to know their scores by taking help from the test preps, social networking websites etc.
When it was suspected to be a case of server crash, it was denied by the CAT 2010 Convener Prof. Himanshu Rai, who said that it was not a case of server crash but the website being slow as lakhs of students tried to login and check their results at the same time.
Also on the day, a few of the IIMs went a step farther and announced to hold the interview processes in a common venue. The candidates who have been selected for the GD PI processes for IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta will now be able to appear for the processes in a common venue for consecutive days. In an earlier interaction with MBAUniverse.com, Prof. Rai gave an indication of the common venue for IIM interviews. He had said, "This initiative has been taken by IIMs to reduce the additional stress of the candidate to keep travelling from one interview venue to the other."
At present, IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta has decided to hold the interview processes at the common venue. The cities in which the GD PI processes of these IIMs will be held are Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore.
Amidst all the speculations, excitement and anxiety there emerged toppers and 100 percentilers from different cities. Reports say that most of the toppers are Engineers and maximum of them are from Maharashtra. There are eight 100 percentilers and many have scored above 99 percentile. Some of the 100 percentilers from Mumbai are Gaurav Malpani from IIT Bombay, Deepak Mehta from BITS Pilani and Ankit Kela.
