Different Creative Writing Scholarships for College Students

There are a lot of scholarship types available for college students, and one of them is categorized as creative writing scholarships. These educational grants are given to college students who excel in creative writing and literature. If you are a great writer, then one of these scholarships will be yours in no time. All you have to do is to send an application and the required written piece, and you can already choose the university where you want to continue your studies.

Here are some of the creative writing scholarships available to college students like you:

Ursinus College provides a stunning $25,000 every year to students who have shown great excellence in creative writing. Once you have been chosen as the recipient, you will be receiving it for four years. Aside from this financial benefit, you will also get the privilege of staying in a dorm owned by the college for free as long as you are the scholar for the J.D Salinger Scholarship.


NEA Creative Writing Scholarship is said to be the hardest competition among all creative writing awards. This grant for school provides $25,000 every year for four years from the National Endowment of Arts. Unfortunately, you can only join the competition if you already have published written works under literature, fiction, and poetry. This is a national level competition, which means that the best of the best in writing are gathered here to compete for the educational grant.

The Armistead Maupin Creative Writing Scholarship Fund is a grant for school that is given to college students who are taking liberal arts or creative writing course. Although the amount of the prize is not as massive as the first two, the competition here is a bit easier. All you need is a great written work, and you can already apply. You do not have to be a popular writer with a published work in order to get this educational grant.

The John Engman Poetry Scholarship is a financial aid that is given to students who excel in poetry. This grant is given to students whose annual family income do not exceed $20,000 and is randomly given to all the applicants. Unlike the NEA Creative Writing, you do not need published materials in order to apply for this financial aid.

There are a lot of programs that are dedicated in providing financial assistance to students with great writing skills. All you have to do is to look for them, and the Internet is one of the best places to start you search.
