If you are already a college student and you are starting to feel overwhelmed, burdened by the "load" you should read this article to find out how to form study skills to get the most out of your study time.
This point may drive you away, forming study skills is a process. What does that mean? Obviously it's not something that will happen overnight. It will take time. it takes some effort. There is learning curve. Does it worth it? You bet! Once you got it drilled into yourself you can apply it whenever you like. The point is to start NOW rather than later.
Smart note taking skills will take you a long way. Do NOT just take note just for the sake of taking note. Do you get it? Take note smartly. Identify what is the main idea and jot it down. It is meaningless to write everything down if you do not even get what is being taught in the class. Put away the habit feeling that everything need to be written down. You need to discern what is important and what is not. How do you know that? pay attention to your lecturer, either he said it explicitly that the material is important or you will notice that he emphasize the material a bit too much.
Lastly, force yourself to do what you are supposed to do. Complete your assignments first then think about where to have fun later. How to force yourself to do that? Just sit on the same place you always sit when you are studying, open up the book and stay there for at least 5 minutes. Your first objective: get at least "a little bit" towards the completion. Just 5 minutes with the goal to at least start doing the assignment. Then from there you can work it up until you don't feel like to do it anymore. Do this every time you got an assignment and you will find yourself do that automatically. That is what we call habitualizing.
