What you may not be aware of is that there are a lot of schools, universities, and degree programs out there that are not accredited but appear to offer the exact same education as an accredited university, but at a much lower cost. It is very important to realize that although a degree or program may appear to teach exactly the same things, if it isn't accredited, then the course content has not been verified by a third party entity and they are actually free to teach whatever they want without any concern for a general consensus of what should be included in the curriculum. This could very well have some benefits for certain individuals, as it allows the professor and/or school to design courses exactly how they see fit, but the other side of the coin is important to keep in mind.
Accreditation can be a very important aspect of getting your degree. Some of the major reasons to look into accreditation are financial aid, credit transferring, and your potential future employers. You will be unable to attain any type of federal financial aid unless your program is accredited. This can be huge for people who are eligible for grants, loans, or scholarships. Also, to be able to transfer credits to an accredited school, your credits must come from a school with accreditation. That means that if you start a degree program at a school that is not accredited, you will not be able to use those credits at an accredited university, which could be a big deal if you change your mind mid way through your degree. The third aspect of accreditation are your potential employers. Most will look to see if you received your degree from an accredited university. Many will frown upon degrees from programs lacking accreditation because it gives them no proof that you covered topics that are traditionally covered under that degree.
However you decide to go for your online MBA degree or something similar, just know what accreditation is and what it stands for and make sure to clarify that the program you are looking into has accreditation if that is something that is important to you. You don't want to end up with a degree and find out that some other people/organizations don't even recognize it without the accreditation.
