Find Naturopathic Universities in the United States and Canada. If you are serious about becoming a natural healthcare provider and are attracted to naturopathic medicine, then applying to one of several naturopathic universities or schools may grant you the educational opportunity to become a practicing Naturopathic Doctor (ND).
As with any educational program, it is always imperative to examine necessary prerequisites. At naturopathic universities, this is no exception. In many cases, naturopathic universities require applicants to have achieved a minimum of a 4-year degree, as well as prescribed coursework required for entrance.
Today, naturopathic universities extend an in-depth course of study, which integrates holistic philosophies and principles with a wide range of subjects including herbal medicine, homeopathy, bodywork, nutrition, basic sciences, natural health, and much more.
Naturopathy programs at naturopathic universities and schools range in course duration; however, most programs typically entail about four years of study, with nearly 5,000 classroom and clinical hours. Apart from internship, students in naturopathic universities will learn a great deal about anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, pathology, histology and other relative sciences. In addition, naturopathic universities instruct students in Oriental medicine, which gives candidates unique understanding of Eastern medicine theories, principles and philosophies.
Graduates from any number of naturopathic universities and schools must take a board exam to be licensed* as an N.D. primary healthcare provider. (*Licensing requirements vary in States and Provinces.) In addition, students who complete coursework in naturopathic universities or schools in the United States and Canada may earn either a degree or diploma. (Degree or diploma programs are dictated by individual learning institutions, level of education, region and governing boards.)
Furthermore, interested individuals often find that some naturopathic universities and schools extend natural healthcare seminars, workshops and continuing education courses to not only students but to the general public, as well.
As an alternative medicine, naturopathy is recognized as an effective natural healthcare complement to conventional treatments. Professionals who have successfully completed all educational requirements from naturopathic universities or colleges can go onto achieving a rewarding career in naturopathic medicine.
If you (or someone you know) are interested in finding naturopathic universities, let professional training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, cosmetology, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Explore career school programs near you.
