Summer School at Bowdoin College

Bowdoin College has many exciting things happening this summer. There are many ways in which research is being done. This summer research program has proven to be very helpful. From cutting edge robotics to uncovering the past in Greenland, Bowdoin College knows how to keep its students engaged all year round.

Summer research programs at Bowdoin College have proven to be very helpful to students and faculty alike. The faculty gets to take advantage of having eager research assistants and the students get to take advantage of once in a lifetime learning opportunities. Many different types of research projects have occurred in the past. There has been everything from research in art to cutting edge computing. Even work in biology with sea urchins was made available to students. A student walks away from a summer research program with more than just education on a specific subject. They also walk away with all of the necessary skills to do a job. They then get a valuable reference for future employment.

This summer, research is being made at Bowdoin College on robotics. The team dubbed Northern Bites is in Austria was competing in the RoboCup World Championship. The students of Bowdoin College involved are taking part in amazing cutting edge research in robotics. This type of experience goes further beyond the scope of a normal education. Something like this gives these students many different skills. For one, they are traveling to a foreign country and that alone is something that is valuable to many future employers. These students are inventing ways of solving problems that can be used later in real life scenarios. Also these students are working as a team towards a goal. What could be more valuable to a company that is hiring people with skills in robotics?

Bowdoin College is also sending students away to Greenland for a different type of research. This is not to uncover something new but something old. This is a prestigious archeological dig headed by the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum. The students of Bowdoin College that are involved are again getting invaluable experience in a foreign country. Of course in Greenland this experience is more about survival in a harsh environment. This experience can be very useful though to prospective archeologists, who will need a lot of experience in the field. These students are also learning all of the valuable skills that they will need to further their careers. These skills are often more than just digging and brushing. Student will also learn about the inner workings of how a piece goes from being underground to ending up in a museum exhibit.
