The Advantages Of Going To Community College

Posted: Mar 18, 2010 |Comments: 0 | Views: 196 |

If you are wanting to go to college, you have quite a few options available.  One of these is to attend a community college in your area before going off to another school.  While some don't like this option, there are a number of advantages to consider going to a community college versus other options that you might have.

The first is cost.  Per credit hour, these colleges tend to be quiet a bit cheaper than other schools.  If you have to take an English composition class, you might as well get it at a cheaper school than paying hundreds of dollars more for the same credits.  As long as these classes will transfer, you can save quite a bit of money.

For some, it's hard to leave the area that you have grown up in.  This might not be an emotional attachment but a practical one.  You may already have children.  You might be taking care of a parent who needs help.  A community college lets you start on your educational goals without having to completely move and leave responsibilities that you might already have.

Many community colleges have programs and plans that are made for working adults.  This means that you can have classes that meet once a week and even online ones.  This makes it easy on you to have closer to full time employment while getting college credits.  If you take classes both semesters and even during the summer, you can almost go full time along with a job.  This makes it much easier to live life while going to school than in a more traditional setting.

Some students need smaller classes and more teacher attention.  In larger universities, your basic classes will be with two hundred students or more.  In community colleges, your typical class size will feel a bit more like high school.  You can get help and have time with the teacher where it's near impossible to do at a different type of school.
