Tired of waiting for your teenager to get off the phone? Want to add a second line for a computer? It’s an easy enough task for the ambitious do-it-yourselfer. All it takes is a few basic tools and a box of Band-Aids®. Seriously, it is not that hard.
Here’s what you need to get started: a drill, a pair of pliers, a couple of screwdrivers, a wire stripper and a wire coat hanger.
Getting Started.
1) Take the phone off the hook. This will help you avoid a mild electrical shock. Unless, of course, you like that sort of thing.
2) Pop the cover off the wall jack. Inside you will discover four colorful connections. At this point, say aloud to yourself “Christmas trees and bumble bees.” At this point, your family will think you are slowly losing your mind. They will be wrong. You see, there are red and green jacks (The Christmas ones). Red and green wires go to your current phone line. There are also yellow and black wires. (Bumble bees, get it?) These are the wires that you can use for an additional home phone line.
3) Call your dPi Teleconnect agent and tell them you are adding a second phone number. They will give you their best deal. Next, tell them you are going to install the new line yourself. They will laugh at you. Don’t be discouraged.
4) A technician will come to your home and check for service at the Network Interface Device (NID) on the side of your house. Once he makes any necessary connections or repairs, the second line will be ready to go.
Pick a room. Add a line.
Okay. The phone wire currently running through your home can handle two lines. Remember? The Christmas trees and bumble bees? The yellow and black wires will now be carrying the second line. If you have a certain room where you want the second line, the switch-over can be simple. Follow these easy steps:
1) In the specified room, find the desired jack for the second line.
2) Unscrew the faceplate from the wall.
3) On the back side of the jack, unscrew the red and green wires and make sure the black and yellow wires are connected.
4) If you need to connect the black and yellow wires, simply strip about 3/4" of insulation off with wire strippers, and connect them to the screw that already has the same colored "jumper" wire on it.
5) Once that is finished, don't screw the plate back on yet. You need to check for a dial tone.
6) Plug in your land line (one that doesn't need to be plugged into an outlet) and listen for a dial tone. If you get one, dial your primary number. If the other line in the home rings, then you're set.
7) Wrap the red and green wires back down the phone cable and tape the ends with black electrical tape.
8) Re-install the faceplate to the wall. And you’re done.

What You Must Know About Laser Engraving
By: laserengravingmachine | 07/01/2010For the engraving industry, CO2 lasers, named for the gasses used to create the light source, are the tools of choice. There are a variety of advantages to using a laser over other methods of engraving; first of all, because the tool is a beam of light, there is no product contact, which translates into less chance of product damage or deformation. It didn't take long for the engraving industry to notice lasers and soon they were being used for a wide variety of industrial applications including
Psychic Hotlines
By: Artie Megibben | 30/12/2009 | CommunicationI have a friend who believes in psychics. I am always telling him if this psychic stuff is real, why do they ask “Who may I say is calling?” when they answer the phone. My friend’s comeback is always the same. Psychics don’t answer their own phones. They use mere mortals to do that.

The Telephone to the Rescue
By: Artie Megibben | 25/11/2009 | CommunicationUsed to be, if you were going through personal problems you might visit a priest. People with more money than faith would often see a shrink. Then in 1953, an English vicar had an epiphany. Why not create a “hotline” where people contemplating suicide could ring up a counselor anytime they were feeling blue? No charge.
When phones got smart
By: Artie Megibben | 23/11/2009 | Cell PhonesGrowing up, I would watch my mother light up cigarette after cigarette, only to take an initial drag and place the burning butt on the edge of a dirty ashtray. There they remained to send up their lonesome smoke signals until she would eventually snuff them out. Each cigarette got no more than two puffs. Five seconds later, she would light up another one and set it on the edge of the ashtray to keep the twisted heap of extinguished butts company. “Why do you smoke?” I would ask. “You know it’s n
The Flight of the phone book
By: Artie Megibben | 23/11/2009 | TechnologyThe family telephone book has always been there for us. It was a booster seat when we first moved from the high-chair to the big people’s table. It was the place where we found the phone number of the girl we invited to the homecoming dance. And it was the place where we first saw our name in print when we moved into that first apartment. But the phone book may be history.
When Cell Service Vanishes
By: Artie Megibben | 23/11/2009 | Cell PhonesCell phones have always had their Achilles’ heel. Dead zones. Go under a bridge and like AM radio, your reception spits and sputters. “You’re breaking up,” the caller says. “Can you hear me now?” comes the clichéd rejoinder. This is especially great when you are talking to a boyfriend or girlfriend and a heavy relationship conversation becomes suddenly incomprehensible. Are they saying they want to see other people or they want to go get pizza? You can’t be sure. Although, pizza does sound reall
