Mobility in the Modern World: the Rise of 4G Wireless

One of the biggest advantages to be had from our modern day and age is the incredible mobility which technology (in many forms) has graced us with.  The fact that these days it is possible to accomplish a great deal of things—both related to personal and professional ambitions—has completely revolutionized the dynamic of our everyday activities, and what used to be very rigid daily schedules and routines have given way to completely flexible and amenable disposition and availability.  Ultimately, the high degree of mobility which we are able to enjoy these days has helped raise our quality of life in general, meaning that we can work and enjoy ourselves in a greater variety of settings and situations, without having to worry that stepping out (to or from anywhere) is going to completely sap the rhythm that we’ve been building up.

Of course, the mobility which we enjoy today didn’t just arise out of nothing: it is the outcome of many generations of mobile technology that have steadily improved the scope and the depth of mobile services.  By now, we have reached the fourth generation of mobile technology—the venerable 4G!  Fourth generation wireless technologies have really opened up a whole new world of connectivity, marking a before and an after for all mobile users (all three previous generations had their own important advances, but this fourth generation achieves a whole different level of service that simply cannot be compared).

With a 4G service, mobile communications clients can have lightning fast access to information anywhere throughout one of the many large metropolitan areas covered by such services.  Fortunately, the number of cities receiving fourth generation coverage is growing quite rapidly, and from only a handful last year to a few dozen present, it’s easy to imagine that in a year or less most major cities in the country will be covered.  With this modality, wireless internet users will be able to completely forget about measly little “hotspots,” small spots of connectivity that don’t cover much more than a city block or two.  Rather, real mobility is finally possible for such users, who can roam throughout the full extension of their city and have total confidence that they will be able to maintain contact with their bosses, colleagues, clients, family, friends, and whoever they should choose!

In particular, fourth generation connection services imply very tangible benefits, principal among which would be the elevated data transfer speeds that can be achieved.  Whereas with 3G connections users could rarely get more than a few Mbps out of their connection, with a fourth generation connection it is possible to get many times that amount, with nominal rates reaching beyond 100 Mbps.  With speeds like that, the kind of work that people used to think suitable only for a cable, fiber-optic connection will now be doable on the go, from wherever one chooses.  Download a big file, access rich media formats and maintain long conversations without interruptions or other inconveniences.  It’s a mobile user’s dream come true!
