Nokia and Ovi

Nokia, the renowned brand name for the world of telecommunication, declared about attaching one more feather in their cap. This is a new Internet service brand, known as Ovi. It will be officially launched in UAE during October, 2007.

Inspiration behind the Development of Ovi

With the successful innovation of Web 2.0, Nokia introduced the personalized internet utilities via social networking as well as file sharing. This innovation inspired Nokia to move one step ahead with the commencement of Ovi through which Nokia offers the platform for accessing internet by its mobile users.

Apart from that, the success of own developmental frameworks as well as portable gaming system also contribute as the source of inspiration. It is estimated that a great proportion of global gaming market actually stem from portable device.

Ideology behind the Development

According to the publisher, the world is a dynamic place, which provides a platform where elements are changing every moment and it should be the motto of leaders to stay aligned with these changes. Nokia, initially being the rubber boot maker and now considered as the world’s biggest mobile phone developer, is the living believer of this ideology.

Feature of Ovi

Essentially Ovi features games, music system, navigation which will be available in selective Nokia devices.

Nokia Music Store and N-Gaze, two web portals, will be launched by Finnish mobile phone giants. These two portals enable their users to access music and game files and download them to their PC to mobile accordingly. Additionally, the user will get maps and city guides from Nokia Maps segment. There will be many more features that will keep coming in successive months.

Constituting all the essential features of Ovi, Nokia will launch first Ovi compatible device, known as N81. It will be launched in UAE during October, 2007.

Keeping the situational demand in mind, Nokia assured the world regarding the inclusion Arabic titles while the music portals will be launched. It is also inline that Arabic-language supported version of Ovi will be released sometimes during 2008.

Current Status

It took nearly 18 months of spending on online properties for Nokia. Currently it collaborated with Loudeye for its music site, with twango for media sharing and with gate5 for mapping service.

In 2003, Nokia introduced N-Gaze gaming system, however it did not work at satisfactory level. So with Ovi and upgraded software and hardware support, Nokia wants to give it a new push.
