The Keys to a Successful Online Reverse Phone Search

Posted: Jul 11, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

One of the biggest frustrations in a world where every landline and mobile telephone has caller ID is getting a call from a number that isn't recognizable or stored in a phone's contact list. Unlike earlier times, where this would require extensive research and calling the phone company to figure out just who was on the other end of the call, the Internet provides a hassle-free alternative that can identify callers in just a minute or two. There are, of course, some careful considerations that should be kept in mind when performing this sort of search.

Free Information vs. Premium Information

There are a large number of sites that promise to reveal the identity of a caller whose number you don't recognize but, unfortunately, many of those sites will only return a result that forces you to pay for the information they discover. When looking up a caller's number, be sure the service uses the freely available White Pages and does not charge you for information.

However, if you are looking for in-depth information that goes beyond just the person's name, do expect to pay a small fee -- either one time or on a subscription basis -- for information such as the caller's home address, place of employment, or other more sensitive information. These details are largely run through background check systems instead of free phone records, so it stands to reason that they would have at least a small fee attached to them.

As always, if you're committing to a fee-based background check system, do a thorough amount of research and discover who offers the best price and promotions. Every provider searches the same databases and will return the same information, so it's really a game of price more than who has the most thorough search results.

Wireless Numbers Unavailable

If the number you've elected to research belongs to a mobile phone, it will not return any user information in a typical search. One of the quirks of the way phone numbers are registered is that, while landlines are placed into a publicly-searchable database and printed in the White Pages, mobile phone numbers are considered unregistered. For that reason, no online reverse phone search website will be able to offer ownership details on a mobile number without some additional "digging."

The good news is that information about wireless numbers is becoming increasingly open to public scrutiny and, when combined with a more thorough background search, many online reverse phone directories can return who they believe is likely the owner of the phone number. This will cost money to complete, however, and a little comparison shopping is a good idea before committing to any specific background searching service. In addition, because there is no guarantee that a wireless phone number's owner may be found, it's generally a gamble of finances when committing to a background search.

Online reverse phone searches are one of the most useful tools on the Internet, able to avert missed connections or harassing callers. They're not without their flaws though, frequently charging users for basic services or returning invalid results for wireless numbers. Be careful, vigilant, and well informed, and these services can be an extremely useful tool in your online arsenal.

Light reflects (bounces back) or refracts (alters its direction while penetrating a different medium)‚ depending on the angle at which it strikes a surface.
