The Method Behind The Reverse Telephone Book Searches

Posted: Dec 27, 2009 |Comments: 0 |

Many people search and use reverse telephone book websites. But just how do these work and what type of information will they provide you with? Is it even legal and can anyone use these services?

Firstly, yes, these types of searches, services and website are completely legal. Up until a few years ago the general public could not access the names and addresses behind listed more unlisted phone numbers. This was kept confidential and only the police and other emergency services could access the information.

I am not 100% certain of the legal processes that allow the public can access this information, but nevertheless it is now readily available and completely legal.

A reverse search will allow you to type in a phone number into a simple search engine and within a few seconds you will be given the name and address that corresponds with that phone number. You can search for landlines or cellphones even if they are unlisted and you will be given all of the owners details. Sometimes you are provided with a matching e-mail address too.

How do these work?

Quite simply the companies that provide this type of search have paid telephone companies directly to have access to huge databases of each phone numbers name and billing address. All of this information is compiled onto a computer system, when you type the phone number into the websites search box a computer simply scours all of the information in the database until a match is found.

This is no different to you working your way through a phone book when you have a name and address to go by. Apart from the computer does it in reverse and a lot quicker than a human ever could.

Reverse telephone book searches can be incredibly helpful for many different reasons, but there may be a small one-off fee that allows you to do an unlimited amount of searches.
