Three Mobile Internet Advances

Posted: May 19, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Mobile Internet is one of the technologies that seems to have been advancing at the speed of light over the last couple of years. However, this type of Internet access has actually been in the making for decades, and for years, it has been planned by various technology companies. For the average person using mobile Internet once in a while, the specific advances that the technology is making may not be that obvious. Now that you're starting to hear about the latest technology, 4G networks, you may be wondering just what the difference is, anyway. Here are just three of the advances that 4G is making on the older networks.

First and foremost, this type of connection has more bandwidth and faster upload and download speeds. This basically means that you can upload and download items three to five times faster than you could with 3G networks, on average. Sometimes, the latest fourth generation networks can get up to speeds that are about ten times faster than the older technology. These are obviously huge advances, and they allow for things that you could previously not do with this type of technology, including downloading large files or watching streaming video content.

Another major advance with this technology is that it is mobile in the truest sense of the word. It's not mobile as in you can go to a park in your neighborhood, sit down, and connect to the web, although it will do that. It is mobile in the sense that you can do it while you're moving. If you have a laptop in your home, you may have experienced this. Pick up the computer while it's online with your wireless home network, and walk to the next room. You can keep watching a video or streaming music the whole time.

Now take that experience and multiply it by ten, and that's what you get with 4G technology. Currently, you can get a high-speed connection that offers the ultimate in convenience and speed even when traveling at over sixty miles an hour. The speeds that you get while traveling aren't yet as great as those you get when you're stationary, but they still beat out 3G Internet technology by quite a lot.

Going along with this moving Internet advance, 4G Internet has a better handoff or handover between networks. Basically, this means that if you move out of the range of one network and into the range of another, you aren't going to notice a blip in your speed or a change in your connection. You'll just go on computing, and the Internet companies will take care of all the pesky little details.

All three of these advances are pretty major for the world of computing. No matter whether you use mobile Internet for work or for fun, this technology can change how you do things and what you're capable of doing. Currently, only a few companies are offering the latest technology. However, it may already be available in your area if you look for it!
