Work Wherever You Want

Many people dream of working from home. They might be involved in any line of work, but actively strive to create a way to earn their income independently and from a comfortable and convenient location such as a home based office.

Because the communication networks around the country have been developing and growing by leaps and bounds, it is quite easy to create a really reliable home office with Internet access, telephone and fax equipment and a variety of other technologies.

Even if someone has made the best plans and developed a realistic business to operate at home, however, they can still be stymied by a lack of high-speed Internet access.

For instance, while the modern world is going “Wi-Fi” and entering into the 3G (Third Generation) world of mobility, there are still huge swaths of the country without access to anything but dial up Internet service.

How can this interfere with someone’s business plans for working at home? Let’s look at a very simple example – a woman with three children would like to offer some editorial and proof reading services to people all over the world. She can do this in a number of ways, and the power of the Internet makes her plans attainable. She might develop a website or use many social networking sites to create a client base. She could also visit many of the freelance and job sites on the Internet as well.

If she tries to do this with a dial up connection, she will find it hard to do simple tasks such as updating her website, loading graphics files and PDFs. She may not be able to use a social networking site due to the large number of media files it contains. Why would all of this be difficult or impossible? Today’s servers and Internet networks do not respond well to slow-loading machines, and quite often dial up users will lose a connection or experience the dreaded “time out” that ends any process instantly because of the extended periods of time that pass between one computer sending a message and the other acknowledging that it has been received.

If, however, this same person decided to have a satellite Internet system installed, all of the problems with speed, stability and capability would disappear immediately. This is because a standard installation will operate around twenty times faster than dial up.

What does that mean? A small video file of around 1 MB would take the dial up user nearly three minutes to load with a 53k modem, but the same user would get their video streaming in only eight seconds, and if they upgraded to a purely professional account that time could be reduced to two seconds.

This means that not only is satellite Internet far more efficient than dial up, it is also almost exactly the same speed as more familiar forms of high-speed access like cable and DSL.

With a satellite Internet package, a home based or freelance professional could create their own home network and operate their laptop in any room. They could also allow additional users to access the network and even install many wireless devices like printers and sound systems if desired.

A high-speed satellite connection can really save a lot of time for the home based professional, and might even make their career possible when it may have seemed unlikely.
