Does the Wii Fit Help With Fitness?????

When Nintendo presented Wii Fit to the market in 2003, a lot of people were skeptical about its market appeal. We all know that majority of people buy videogame consoles not to become fitter and healthier, but to play virtual games. Anyone may find standing up and moving the arms and hips to play virtual bowling as acceptable, but using a board to balance in order to help shrink the body mass is not really something that is appealing for everyone. Thus, a lot of people really thought that this addition to the Wii family might not make it in the market.

Much to the surprise of everyone, however, Wii Fit became an instant success. At first, many thought that the Balance Board could scare off full-fledged gamers. The board is an add-on in the console which is used to calculate your BMI, or Body Mass Index, and track your weight-loss progress. But needless to say, both adults and teens have accepted this revolutionary videogame console as an important part of their fitness sessions. Aside from Pilates and yoga, one of the Wii Fit games that a lot of people enjoy is the Hoola Hoop balancing game. Aside from helping shrink your waistline, this fun game can also challenge both casual and serious gamers.

It is important to note that the Wii Fit is not really designed to be a top-of-the line videogame console. So you should not expect a wide array of available games for this system. And if you are looking for ultra-crisp graphics or super fun games, then you should have opted to buy Wii or Nintendo DS Lite instead. In fact, it may not even support upgrades or downloadable games. Moreover, this console is also not designed to replace your exercise regimen or weight-loss program. You may even lose weight faster if you just jogged around the park or lifted weights in the gym. Besides, Balance Board may not even accurately compute your BMI, particularly because it does not consider muscle mass in its computation. In effect, you might think you are not fit because your BMI is high but in reality you are just heavier because of your muscles.

Wii Fit is actually designed for people who want to have fun playing games and at the same time get physically active. Let's face it, not everybody enjoys being cooped up in the gym or running around in parks. This videogame console is ideal for people who want to workout in the comfort of their own homes alone or with their family. I have often heard people complain about the number of classes available in World of Warcraft. Indeed, compared to alot of other MMO's on the market, WoW does have a significantly lower number of classes. Some games have 20 or more classes to choose from, with all sorts of subclasses and dual specializations etc.. Why doesn't WoW, the most successful massively multiplayer game in history, have nearly as many? Well it all comes down to balance.
