Maps

The Memorial Map is set in the open and is shaped in square form.  On the outside of the map are elevated spots where you can easily snipe any moving enemies from distance.  Long distance weapons should generally be used because of the capacity to see enemies over great distances.

The Sewer Map is very enclosed and is set upon three levels.  As the name suggests all the action is underground and has plenty of close quarter combat stretches.  There is however a big space in the middle of the map.

Outpost is certainly one of the most interesting maps, being very large and open. As a result of the large space, snipers can score very heavily.  Not only is there a platform at the top of the map that overlooks the whole playing arena, there are three lookout posts that provide perfect sniping positions. There are several building and even a dilapidated fighter plane which you can go underneath.

Nightclub tends to be one of those maps that people frequently overlook in the lobby room.  The map contains a circular dancefloor that is surrounded by a number of spiralling corridors.  Sticking to the corridors in the main means close quarter weapons should be used.

The Station map is an eclectic mix of underground/overground and long distance/short distance action.   The train that is prominent on one side of the map is the ideal place to set up a sniper's nest, although there are counter locations on the opposite side of the map where you can respond in kind, albeit with potential for people to creep up on you.

The Docks is a large map with indoor and outdoor action.  On one part of the map there is a great elevated position on one side of the map overlooking the square.

Jungle is one of the better maps in Goldeneye 007.  There are four outposts around the edge of the map overlooking a central walkway on the ground.  A series of walkways connect the four posts.  Lots of variety for all players.

Industrial is an large map that is set inside.  It is easy to camp and score well in certain game modes on this map.

Facility is one of the weaker maps on Goldeneye, being largely uninspiring.

Archives tends to be one of the popular maps in the game lobby.  Completely enclosed and close quarter some great battles can commence, just try taking control of the Golden Gun on this map!

Modes

Conflict mode is every man for himself Deathmatch style, and the first to 30 kills wins.  Team Conflict is quite simply Team Deathmatch.  The brilliant Golden Gun mode is conflict mode with a twist, the current holder of the Golden Gun gets five times more points for a kill than with a conventional weapon.  Only one person can wield the heralded Golden Gun but the Gun is transferrable.  Black Box is similar to Team Attack and Defend. One objective is placed on the map with one team looking to sabotage and the other looking to defend it.  Another credible mode is GoldenEye, where you attempt to take control of five objects across the map - whoever has control of the most objects at the end of the round wins.

In Heroes one person on each team is the hero and like all hero's they have powers that are only applicable to them.  In Goldeneye they have more health, do more damage and help teammates regain health.

Both Licence to Kill and Team Licence to Kill are locked until level 25 and 30 respectively.

Classic Conflict which is unlocked at level 35 sees to play as eight classic Bond film characters.  You can play as Donald Grant, OddJob, Scaramanga, Blofeld, Jaws, Baron Samadi, Rosa Klebb or Dr No in a conflict battle

Positives and Negatives

Positives

  • Online matches don't drag on
  • If you have a sniper personality in any first person shooter game you will love this game.  Any sniper weapon hit is a kill, and even close quarter combat guns can be used to generate quite lengthy kills.
  • Best weapon layout is dynamic across maps - long distance weapons superior on bigger maps, short distance weapons superior on smaller maps
  • Hardly any disconnections from an online game
  • The game supports levelling up – and the more you level up the more modes and guns you unlock (although classic conflict should be unlocked sooner)
  • 20 primary weapons is enough
  • Can unlock achievements for certain things in online mode
  • 9 different modes provides variety
  • Golden Gun is a superb addition to the game – a similar mode could easily be added to most first person shooter games
  • GoldenEye mode is also a strong mode
  • The maps are distinct from one another
  • Varied choice of controller is very much welcome, playing with the Wiimote for some people can be annoying.  The classic controller can provide a much welcome relief from this
  • A good and bad point is that Classic Conflict is unlocked only after you have played for hours online, meaning you will constantly be playing the game to unlock this mode

Negatives

  • The graphics pale in comparison to equivalent titles on PS3 and Xbox 360
  • On small maps the respawn spots can be a nightmare
  • Depending on your preference of course, camping can reap great rewards on certain maps and modes
  • Why not have historical Bond maps from other Bond films as extras?
  • 8 players for big maps is not enough
  • Can't chat to comrades online
  • That damn Wiimote can be so annoying
  • Mis-selling in the TV adverts.  Buying the normal (i.e. non Collector's Edition) game on the premis of playing as classic Bond characters is wrong.  These cannot be unlocked until level 35 or if you buy the Collector's Edition
  • Some additional customisation would have been better

 SUMMARY

Dingplay is where you can play for cash on Goldeneye 007 Wii as well as chat to others about all things to do with the game.  You can also win cash on competitive game matches as well.
