The main disadvantage is clearly their high costs of buildings and units. It's the highest in the game and this makes you a bit vulnerable if you aren't careful. You won't have as big of an army as the other races and you'll have to get more resources to make the same amount of people & buildings.
However, your armies are much more powerful and you don't need the same amount of numbers as your opponents. If you don't have a strong economy, however, you won't be able to sustain what you want to make and you'll eventually lose. You must have a great economy in order to win the game.
Early Game Strategies
While you have disadvantages you clearly have some very major advantages. An early Zealout rush is one of the hardest things to repel, and even if you can't destroy the enemy altogether you can definitely halt their resource gathering and make them very weak in the long run. An early Zealout rush that is successful will usually get you the game. Make sure you disrupt their economy, don't blatantly kill units that you see. Disrupting their economy will have a significant effect on their ability to defeat you in the long run.
Use The Map to Give You An Advantage
You're normally going to have less units than your enemies, so a very interesting way to go at it is to force them to fight you in choke points. When you're in a choke point, or something very small that is contriving, you take their masses away and will always fight a set amount (hopefully equal) of their forces.
For instance, if you go into a very slim area you they will only be able to fit as many units as you currently have in there, which will give you a serious advantage (Because all of your units can usually take out a few of theirs.)
