After you get the assaults out of the way, you can then just head to the middle and try to defend whatever seems the easiest. People rarely defend graveyards contested graveyards, so defending one of those isn't usually hard (Stonehearth or Iceblood are usually the easiest ones to defend). Towers, on the other hand, can be difficult. They usually have a couple of defenders, at least, so retaking them on your own isn't always viable. And, yeah, if you see an opportunity to get your Field of Strife kill while you're going around defending, don't hesitate to take it.
