Benefits and Considerations of IP Cameras and Pharmacy Surveillance

Pharmacies are often a target for theft. This is because they have a wide variety of different products and medications, many of which are for prescription-only. Pharmacies require constant video surveillance to keep track of those easy-to-snatch items and expensive prescription medication. IP network cameras are a great way to keep video surveillance on pharmacies because they offer both real-time surveillance, digital recording capabilities and much more.

The Benefits to IP Cameras

- One of the reasons that IP cameras are best for pharmacies is because they provide live video stream over the internet from anywhere in the world. What this means is that police, medics and security guards can watch what is happening in real-time without always having to be there. They can guard the pharmacy from remote computers which can save precious time, money and energy.

- Another great thing about IP cameras is that they can record video to remote PCs over the net as well. However, unlike the bulky analog form, IP cameras use digital technology which offers almost unlimited video recording power.

- IP cameras feature control pan/tilt and zoom features so you can direct the cameras to the best angle possible. You can ensure that you get the theft's face.

- IP cameras can also be set up in both wireless and PoE (power over Ethernet) functions which mean lower installation costs and less wiring.

- Because of these benefits to IP cameras, customers and staff will be protected from criminal activity, hold ups and any other problems that may occur. IP cameras can also keep prices low as there will be less theft of medicines and drugs.

- IP cameras can also offer email and SMS updates if motion is detected by the camera.

- Furthermore, with constant video streaming, police will be able to immediately be able to make an arrest. IP cameras can also stop thefts from occurring, especially if a theft is aware of the IP cameras in place.

Considerations when it comes to IP Systems

- IP systems can be incredibly invasive on privacy, especially for your customers. Make sure you remain respectful by placing the IP cameras away from patient information and their medication history.

- When setting up an IP system, consider the size of your shop. Is it a small outlet or a larger store?

- Look at the current security that you have installed, if any. Use the IP cameras to complement the current video surveillance system.

- Target high risk areas such as back corners, the cash register and the pharmacy where many thefts may occur.

- It's also important to look into all areas of the store including garbage stations and storage facilities. Often theft will occur behind closed doors in the inventory section where it may seem easier to get away with it.

- If your pharmacy offers a drive through service, make sure you target the IP cameras to hit the license plates of the vehicles for quick and easy arrests.

By: Ritchie Smythe | 09/11/2009
A lot of commercial hype attended the video format wars between Sony’s Blu-Ray and Toshiba’s HD-DVD before and after they were launched in 2007. Just as Sony’s Blu-ray high definition video format has won the format wars against Toshiba’s HD-DVD last year, we now have a new home video viewing format that can take the wind out of Sony’s recent format triumph – one that it finally won after its Betamax fiasco - it’s 3D.

3D Technologies Bring Communication to a Higher Level of Realism

By: Ritchie Smythe | 09/11/2009
The concept of 3D is not new as people had been intermittently flocking to cinema houses as early as the 60s to watch some 3D cinematic extravaganzas. They require viewers to wear anaglyph paper or plastic glasses with red and green for each eye to decipher the three dimensional video sensation.

Augmented Reality – Virtual Reality that’s Real Today

By: Ritchie Smythe | 09/11/2009
This is not virtual reality which is 100% simulated environment and characters. But it’s close and more useful in the real world. If you’ve watched any of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator movies where they show what the terminator sees from his perspective (displaying data while looking at a person or object) that’s the general idea of what AR is.

The cars of today are a far cry for what they used to be in the last half of the preceding century. It used to be luxury owning one. For some brands, it still is. In a span of 10 years, mobile phones and portable consumer devices have reached a level of sophistication that delivers entertainment value to their users from almost anywhere in the planet. Digital Technology Brings Music Playback to Realistic High Resolution

By: Ritchie Smythe | 09/11/2009
Music listening at home has been the pastime of many and a serious hobby to a few. The old vinyl records of the past allows a level of realism and aural pleasures that are often obtained only from the finest sound system in the planet. That is because there have been manufacturing and design, compromises that went into them compared to mass produced consumer electronics that are often a bundle of design compromises just to bring the price tags to within reach of the masses.

Exciting Possibilities with Nanotechnology

By: Ritchie Smythe | 09/11/2009
Just when you thought we have reached the summit of man’s engineering wisdom, we realize that we are just scratching the surface. There’s so much more promise lurking in technologies that harness the power of the atom. No, we’re not talking about nuclear fusion, though that’s another leap alright from the current fission technologies that have given rise to the atom bomb and nuclear power plants lighting our homes.

Atom Computers – Benefiting from Nanotechnology

By: Ritchie Smythe | 09/11/2009
Computers of the future will use atoms instead of chips for memory. That’s a simplified way of saying that within the next few years, we can expect miniaturization to go into the atomic level to bring to the consumer and the office more power computers that require significantly less power and possess lesser footprints.
