Computer Maintenance tips for your Windows PC

Do you work in an office environment and depend on your computer on a daily basis?  The following are computer maintenance tips to keep your computer up and running at good speed. Never turn off your computer with the power switch.  You must always use the Windows shut down feature.  When using the windows shut down feature, it essentially cleans the windows temporary files and closes all recently used programs correctly, so that the next time you restart your computer you will not get any error messages.

There is however an exception to this, for example when searching on the web for "netbook vs ipad" or "free hd movies online" and you go to a website infected with viruses and spyware.  Your computer will be infected and frozen. You must then manually press the power switch and hold it down for a few seconds to power it down.  It is recommended try to use the "Ctrl-Alt-Del" buttons first, before attempting to power off the computer manually.

Protect your computer from electrical mishaps. You must plug your monitor, computer, and printer to a surge protector.  By doing so, you will keep your computer from crashing during thunderstorms, or power outages.  A surge protector will protect and save all your work on the computer during any electrical power disasters.  Backup your data regularly, because you never know when such disasters can happen.   By backing up weekly, you will never lose any of your important work files.  You can use CD-RWs, Zip disks, USB Flash drives, or DVDs to back up your files.  Another option is to use external hard drives to back up your work.

In conclusion, you must take care of your computer as it is vital for your working environment.  Not doing so, will cost you time and money.  The things you depend on to succeed at your work will be at risk, if no maintenance is done on them. Everyday there are more and more people losing their important data, because there was not a care in keeping up with their computer maintenance. It is always a good idea to keep backup copies of your data on external storage devices.
