Computers Have Turn Green

For the conservation of Earth's natural resources, many manufacturers and corporations have jumped on the green movement. As automakers introduce their green hybrid vehicles, solar companies servicing residential and commercial properties with solar panel system, the IT computer corporations too are producing environmental conscious desktops, software programs, and accessories.

Green Desktops
With the realization that traditional desktops consumed an immense amount of energy for its sustainability and functionality, green desktops were formulized to significantly lower a computer's energy consumption need without the sacrifice of quality. Dell's "Green Hybrid," the latest power efficient desktop from the company showcases eco-friendly features such as:

  • 80 percent smaller than standard desktops
  • 75 percent less printed documentation by weight compared to tower desktop
  • 70 percent less power than a traditional hard drive
  • Energy Star 5.0 standard with an 87 percent efficient power supply
  • Packaging made with less 95 percent recyclable materials

Apple puts their products through a "Life Cycle Impact," a thorough breakdown of all negative discharge associated with the assemblage of their goods. All aspects are covered–from the raw material extraction, manufacturing, packaging, transportation, life expectancy, and to the recycling at the end of its usage. The company concluded that 95 percent of their greenhouse gas emission contribution comes from this process.

Energy Saving Software
Free green software application programs on the Internet would also go great with a power efficient desktop, such as:

  • Edison: A power usage optimization software application, with an easy, one-step setup created by Verdiem.
  • Aardvark: Firefox's extension software program that adjusts the layout of a browser web page to remove unwanted elements when printing, saving ink and paper consumption.
  • GreenPrint: Another application created by Window to help save ink and paper, remove unnecessary pages or space from printouts before it heads to the printer.

Power Efficient Accessories
The new hybrid Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries would best suit low-drain devices, like digital cameras, because it combines high-drain performance of older rechargeable batteries with a shelf life that can hold its charge for many months.

Don't let a crashed computer end your computer's life. One fewer computer disposed of mean less electronic waste. Reduce your electronic waste and hire a professional for data recovery for San Diego so you can extend the life of your computer and it's components. You'll save some green while going green.
