Disk Fragment – Tips To Help You Avoid Disk Fragmentation

Posted: Nov 18, 2009 |Comments: 0 |

Disk Fragmentation is a very annoying problem in computer. it can cause slow data assess speed and poor computer performance. What is worse, it can brings wears and tears to hard drive and increase the possibility of data loss. It is advisable to defrag hard disk regularly to reduce the amount of it.

Actually, besides defragmentation, we can take some measures to avoid fragmentations or decrease the chance of damages. By researching the hard disk for a long time, I figure out some ways that can effectively avoid fragmentations.

Here is the tips you can use to avoid it. You just need to follow my instructions below:

1. Allocate the volumes for different files. Save the files which experience many more reads to a dedicated volume. The volumes which save the files that are more stable will have less fragments. And the files which are written and deleted frequently to other volumes. Then fragments only occur in those volumes.

2. Create a dedicated folder in Volume D and name it as Temp (of course, you can create folder in the volatile volume and name it otherwise). Then open Internet Explorer and click Tools. Then click Setting button in the Browsing History area. Then click Move Folder and select Temp folder. Then the fragments generated by IE won't occur in system disk. This can maintain the performance of your computer.

3. Create a folder in volume D and name it as My Documents. Then go to desktop and right click My Documents. Then click Properties. Then set the Target Folder as d:\My Documents. The reason of this issue is the same as above.

Those tips can effectively avoid the fragmentations that cause slow computer performance. Because you set partition D as a dedicated zone which is used for saving temporary files. So the fragments generated by IE and My documents will in volume D.

But to reduce the amount of fragmentations, you should defragment your disk regularly. You can use  defragment software like Advanced Defrag to conduct defragmentation to help you avoid all the problems that result from fragmentations. And you can click the link below to find out more about how to improve computer performance.
