Do You Know How Your Verizon Phones Actually Operate?

If you're reading this article then you are on the internet and if you're on the internet then you probably have a cell phone, maybe one from Verizon Cell Phones. Or you might even be reading this from the internet with Verizon Phones. That's the technology we're seeing every day, and it continues to get better. And yet if someone asks, "Hey, how's that cool little guy work?" it is likely that most of us would have no way of answering that accurately. Who cares how it works, it does and I use it is the mentality with technology. We take these things for granted and now it is time that we learn how this technology works in order to better appreciate it.

The telephone is a complex radio, but a radio nonetheless. Think of a cell phone first in terms of walkie-talkies or CB Radios. These are half-duplex devices, that is two people talking back and forth using the same frequency. However, Verizon Cell Phones and all cell phones, are a full-duplex device. This means that one frequency can be used to listen and another can be used for speaking. Therefore, both parties can speak at the same time. While a walkie-talkie can transmit approximately one-mile a CB radio can transmit closer to five miles. However the cellular phone is system is ingenious because every city or county is divided into tiny cells so that millions can use cell phones simultaneously. This gives a cell phone incredible, almost unending range.

Each cell is using one-seventh of the available channels so it has a unique set of frequencies and there are no collisions. So this basically means, in any cell 56 people can be talking on their cell phone at one time. But this is with analog cellular systems whereas with digital transmission methods, the number of available channels increases. And remember that's just the people on one carrier such as Verizon Phones. When you realize all the carriers out there, you begin to understand how so many people can be on their cell phone simultaneously in one area.

All right, there is still a lot more to know about how cell phones operate but this is the basics of it. It is an amazingly intricate system that allows all of us to be mobile and accessible anywhere and at all times of the day and night. And now you understand why a mobile phone is called a cell phone - because the city is divided into little cells!
