Finding your Linksys router's local IP address is important whenever you need to determine what IP address you should enter your web browser's address field in order to access your Linksys router's web-based setup interface. Additionally, you'll need to know your Linksys router's local IP address if you are willing to assign a static IP address to a computer on your network.

To find the local IP address of your Linksys wireless router, you need to connect a computer on your network to the Linksys router, verify if the IP address of your computer was configured to be set through DHCP, and then checking your Linksys router's local IP address.

To connect a computer on your network to your Linksys wireless router, use an Ethernet cable and insert one end of the cable in the computer and the other end in any of the Ethernet ports on the Linksys router then start checking the computer's TCP/IP settings as described below.

To make sure that the computer got an IP address automatically from your Linksys router, you have to check the TCP/IP properties of the computer's Ethernet card installed by opening the control panel, clicking on Network Connections icon, and then click your network adapter name. After verifying that the computer is set to obtain an IP address automatically, check your Linksys router's local IP address by following the steps below. This procedure was done on a Windows XP based computer.

Step 1: Click on Start, and then click on Run.

Step 2: Once the Run dialog box opens, enter "cmd" in the Open field, and then click on OK.

Step 3: When the Command Prompt appears, enter the statement "ipconfig/all" without quotes, and then press Enter.

Step 4: Note that the Default Gateway is your Linksys router's local IP address.

Step 5: Enter "exit" then press on Enter in order to close the Command Prompt.
