Freeview HD - Coming to a Town Near You Soon

Posted: Apr 22, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

There is a good possibility that Freeview HD channels will be available soon in the UK. This has a lot of people excited, as they have been waiting a long time for this technology to hit the market. This technology is going to change the way people view their favorite TV programs. The best thing about Freeview HD is that this technology is going to be available free to all within a short period of time. There is a lot of work being done to try and get the whole system functioning as soon as possible, however, the way it looks right now, this technology won't be completely available in all areas before 2012. When it is released, it will be available all over the UK.

The channels available on Freeview HD are BBC HD, ITV 1 HD, S4C and Five HD. The amount of channels available will build gradually and you will be able to get them as they are available in your area. Around the clock work is being done to provide all channels in all areas. The BBC already has some programs that work on HD like the Hustle, Being Human, Survivor and Mad men, however, there are many more programs that will be available with HD technology, which will make the viewing experience much more enjoyable. Channel 4 HD should be available by the end of 2010 and Five is expected to come out at the end of 2012.

We are not sure at this stage how many more channels will follow. At present, no other channels have talked about joining the HD technology, but this could easily change. As this technology becomes more widely used it may draw more more channels in. Updates will be posted o the Internet as this grows.

In order for you to be able to get Freeview HD you will need to have a DVB-T2 High Definition Freeview receiver with that supports MPEG-4. These boxes are available on the market now, but you will have to wait until Freeview is available in your area before you can get an actual signal. Freeview is easily receivable through your TV aerial. So aside from Freeview receiver, you dont need any special antenna or dish to receive Freeview HD. Unfortunately, if you have a HD TV set with a built in Freeview receiver, this will not be able to receive Freeview HD. You will need to get a new receiver box and connect it to the existing TV to be able to get HD.

The TV sets that are capable of supporting this new technology are now available on the market. When you buy a TV, you should make sure the set is HD compatible. If the TV is not compatible in anyway, like with the DVB-T tuners, they will not be able to decode the Freeview channels and you will not be able to watch HD on your TV.

It is important to understand how Freeview HD technology actually functions. You should understand the way it works and is set up before you go out to buy an expensive TV and decoder. It may even be wise to wait until Freeview HD is official released before buying these things. Technology is always evolving. A top of the line TV and decoder today may not be the best on the market by the time Freeview HD is released.

Humax has already come out with its first boxes. They are selling so fast that stock is out and now you are going to have to wait till the next batch comes out before you can get one. This technology is getting a good and fast response from the people, as watch TV in HD is much better than watching a DVD quality picture. There are some mixed feelings about the whole issue, some people don't see that much of a difference. It is too early to go on criticizing something that is not out of the box yet. You will have to wait and see and experiment with the technology yourself.
