Computers were an alien thing some years ago. Very few had heard about them and even fewer would have guessed the implications it would have one one's life in a few years time. The pc started out as a business commodity and now one can't imagine our life with out it. The first pc's were not even as speedy as the mobiles today and were mainly used for data entry purposes. They were very bulky and occupied vast amount of space.
Slowly but surely, pc's started entering businesses as a means of keeping business data and accounting details in them. Programming languages developed which were utilized to create custom-builtprograms. Then pc's entered mainstream. Its entrance in the mainstream was helped with the entrance of the internet. Pc started becoming a consumer product like the Television set.
So, what's a computer used for today?

-The the net is the biggest advent in the history of people in the last century or so. It started of as a way to communicate as a part of a military operation but has penetrated a high percentage of households today.
-In its initial stages, it was used for emailing, news. As it evolved, many other uses started to creep in. It was used for buying products and services online which is known as ecommercing. The blogging wave struck next and everyone seemed to have a blog of their own. Owning and running a website suddenly became much easier. It has become in recent times a focus for outsourcing of work online. Today, information pertaining to all things imaginable is available online. The latest news, story, interviews, gadget reviews etc all available at a click of a button. There has been an exceptional rise in social networking in recent years. Social networking sites provided the people a medium for staying in touch with all their acquaintances.
So, whats the internet used for these days?

In short, computers and the net have entered our lives in a powerful way and now we can't imagine our lives with out them. That's what technology does to us.
