An odd name for a phone, but is the LG KU990 Viewty a beauty or a beast? At first glance it does look like a true beauty, boasting a wonderfully large touch screen which is extremely responsive and a 5 megapixel camera complete with xenon flash this is one of the most stylish models around.
If you look at the camera from the back you could be forgiven for thinking this was an actual digital camera. 5 megapixels allows you to take some great photos, with digital stabilisation to help steady shots and comes with easy and quick control when choosing the size of photo, the quality of the shot and such as the white balance. A great feature for viewing your photos can be found in the photo album of the phone and takes full advantage of the touch screen. Your photos sit on the screen and can be moved around with the fingertip just as though they were laid out on a table, which means you drag them and flip them around to view them. However should the newness wear off, you can revert to standard viewing.
The camera also allows the user to shoot video of 120 fps; this is great when it comes to capturing fast action and then replaying it back in slow motion, which is a wonderful and fun feature to include. Speaking of video it is worth mentioning for fans of watching video and movies on their phone that the Viewty is compatible with DivX format. There are many full length films to be found online and these can be stored on microSD card which the phone readily accepts.
As mentioned before the Viewty has a beautiful large screen which is outstanding in both horizontal and vertical layouts. You can take full advantage of the brightly lit screen using the installed web browser, which is one of the best to be found on a mobile phone. What sets it apart is the fact that the web pages are full sized but are reduced to fit the screen, simply zoom in on the parts of the page that you are interested in. However one thing missing on the LG KU990 Viewty is a Wi-Fi connection, this means that unless you have a data plan you will run up a huge bill when going online. This is a real shame with the number of hotspots that are around the UK which can be taken advantage of and the fact that the phone includes software and boasts uploading videos taken with the camera directly to YouTube, along with downloading.
Of course let's not forget that this is a phone and the calling features are excellent. The audio quality on the phone when talking is clear and loud with no distortion, the hands free loudspeaker also allows clear conversations. The large screen again is a big advantage when it comes to making video calls which again are clear.
Overall the LG KU990 Viewty is a real beauty with just a few minor flaws, which are not enough to make it a beast. Battery life is very poor if you are using the phone to listen to music, surfing the web and making calls, you would have to recharge it every night. However if just using the mobile for phone calls then you would on average get two days out of it. While the camera produces excellent clear shots, it is let down slightly when it comes to night time shots. The Xenon flash is better than an LED light, but on this model it is not the brightest, so night time shots are a little on the dark side. However even with these few niggles in mind it is a beautiful stylish phone with many outstanding features and is definitely worth considering.

Netbook vs Laptop
By: Nestor Hayden | 28/11/2009Going back a few years, the one question which was continuously asked of me was, should I get a laptop instead of a desktop PC? Whilst there is no definitive answer, as each person's needs are different, the answer has probably changed from 90% NO to 90% YES. The reason for this is the narrowing gap between desktop and laptop computers in terms of performance, reliability and storage capacity. Now we have a stand-off between netbook and laptop computers as people explore the possibi...
